If John was to decide to come out of retirement either to make a few guest appearances i.e Queens "final ever" live performance or get into touring full time or help Brian and Roger complete any in-completed studio work whatever....
How long would it take for John to re learn the bass if he hasn't played the thing since his last appearance back in 97
^ Well his Fingers will be working quite well after a couple of practice sessions. To re-learn the Queen tunes would be more challenging I guess.
I had something like a ten year break from playing myself ( ok I touched a bass guitar here and there but no longer than five minutes or so)
On the other hand - don't worry - there will be no final Tour or Album with him.
Despite that he is still playing for his private pleasure.
The skills are still there and probably he can easily play along. The real challenge wll be to get locked into Roger's bassdrum and keep the ball rolling.
A number of his kids are musicians , checkout Luke Deacon on youtube, under the name YulesGold ...swim
Sounds like JDs fingers are providing the backing.
Music is a function of the brain before it's a function of the fingers, and I think because he did it for so many years that actually, the fingers would move quite well after a couple of weeks. Let's say he started a technical regime - two to four weeks he'd be able to play bloody well, and within 6 months to a year he could well be better than he ever was before.
Aww that Swim song is actually great and reminiscent of something like 'Misfire'. I'm not sure it's JD on bass, but it's certainly JD influenced!
It does have that one-quarter Queen sound!
What is the fucking point of all this? He retired in 1997 and is now probably enjoying his life on his own terms. Good luck to him. Time to move on people;
