NZ being a very small market for music. Bands or acts very rarely compete with each other for obvious reasons and more often than not, work together particularly with summer tours... But overseas and bigger markets such as the UK and USA it is a slightly different story from what I have read or what mates from overseas have said....
Love to know....
Did Queen ever have any serious feuds or just the general tongue and cheek competition and what friendships did Queen make and just how respected was Queen from other bands.. (particularly in the early years when they were rubbing shoulders with the giants, Led Zep, Sabbath and the like... ?) Both from what Queen has said about other bands and vice versa.
Read an interview with Roger in which he slates Lynyrd Skynyrd. Also there was a disagreement with Aerosmith years ago about the position of them on a card at a festival.
Q. As a drummer, you’ve cited John Bonham as your biggest influence.
A. For me there were there main influences: Bonzo, Keith Moon, and Mitch Mitchell, who I think was so underrated. I heard Ginger Baker saying some incredibly cruel things about Mitch Mitchell and I thought, what a ***t. Ginger Baker didn’t have any of subtlety or dexterity of Mitch Mitchell, whom he slagged the hell out of. That really got up my nose.
Q. Who are your biggest influences as a songwriter?
A. Oh, Ginger Baker, definitely [laughs]. Seriously, it would be Dylan, Lennon… and Springsteen is fabulous.
"Ginger Baker didn’t have any of subtlety or dexterity of Mitch Mitchell" - what a weird quote since we all know that Roger's prompt for getting into Smile was the notice looking for a Ginger Baker-type drummer. The irony flames higher than ever with this one.

I thought it was actually for a 'Mitch Mitchell/Ginger Baker-type drummer'.......doesnt seem too ironic, I guess, I suppose Roger would know more about the qualities of various drummers than Brian or Tim would have at the time......
It would have been more ironic if it was Brian saying that....
(Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding are both seriously underrated IMO, overshadowed by Jimi, of course!)

I remembering reading where Roger said something like "they had 3 lead guitarists, we only needed one" :D
That seems to have been the exception, as they usually seem to have gotten along really well with the bands that supported them and vice versa.....Nutz, Mott, Lizzy, Billy Squier....
(dang spellcheck......accepts "Mott" but not "versa"??? what the....)
I'll dig out the Lynard Skynard quote, but apparently they were appearing together and they LS fans have boards calling Queen all queers. Then Roger says something like, 'then they had the terrible plane crash, you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, bollocks to that, what arseholes'
