Among the Queen forum here, how popular was the song Liar, both as a live track and as a album track.
After finally watching The Rainbow on some really good speakers.. You can clearly hear the amount of times the song LIAR was requested and shouted out by the audience!!! Which led me wondering...
Exactly how popular was this track and was that a regular occurrence during that time for people to ask for Liar to be played and when did the popularity of the song start to wane (if it ever did) or was it still, always a highlight/regularly requested song of the show right to the very end when it was eventually dropped from the setlist..? For those of who on here who attended those 77-78 concerts how did Liar fare with the new songs Queen where playing at the time. Was it fast becoming a old song like Brian's solo that shouldn't be there? and those who attended the concerts from 78 onwards when Liar was dropped.. was it a relived and about time that song was dropped feeling...? Or was it fast becoming a much missed song..? And those lucky few who were at those select few show's during the hotspace tour.. How exciting was it to hear that song being played in it's entirety? Like Bohem Rhap, could liar ever have stood the test of time and go through every show or at least every tour Queen did?
p.s sorry for kind of a repeat thread about this song. kinda stuffed it up. Just love this song and want to know what everyone thinks of this song!!
They played it on the Works tour, too. It seems it was just a favourite of the fans in the early years; audiences of the time certainly did love to yell for it. Queen certainly realised how well loved it was as part of their live show, hence their including it for most of their tours - they brought it back in for the Works tour, and they teased at it in all the 1986 shows as well, before playing the much inferior Tear it Up.
I liked the one in Earl's Court '77. The Deacon solo is amazing!
Liar was a cult favorite in Queen's catalogue. Queen were proud of Liar, since it was one of their earlier singles.
In the early 80's there was a poll in the fan club magazine, possibly the first international Queen-related poll ever made. Literally thousands of fans from different parts of the world voted and, as far as I remember, 'Liar' was top five or something like that. In fact, I think it was the second most popular non-hit (the first being 'Black Queen').
That's some impressive memory you have there! I had to check my old magazines, Christmas '81, Liar was indeed up there, voted no. 6 in the poll(March of the Black Queen voted no. 4).

To be fair I'd checked it a couple of years ago, and I still got it wrong (it didn't make top five) so it's not too impressive n_n It's not just Brian who misremembers stuff :D
