Brian May - Selfie stick (Paris 2015). Looks and sounds ridiculous. link |
tomchristie22 27.01.2015 10:37 |
Such a standout track. The video is... well, kind of lame. The special effects have aged terribly, but they're quaint I suppose. The image of Brian falling into the flames is pretty funny, although the pitch-deepened 'Clear the vision' section is bizarre and manages to be kind of unnerving, with the constant jerky cuts between different effects on Brian's eyes. The portions where we just get to see Cozy play, Brian play and sing, are the best parts.

The Resurrection solo, along with the Cyborg riff and the solo on Born to Love You shows that Brian have an amazing taste for tapping |

... not really. In Resurrection, the Cozy is playing a rock shuffle (8th triplets) while Brians tapping solo instead consists of 16th note triplets, with the 8th's straight. While that might not be unheard of in some types of music, it makes for a (to me) rather awkward listen, as the drums and guitars really don't seem to match up. But yes, the tapping in the other two songs are pretty sweet. Especially the Cyborg stuff was probably tricky, because it sounds like he had to occasionally slide a semitone up or down with his right finger, which takes a bit of practice to master. |

Its a great song I liked the video it's incredible how technology has advanced so much in terms of graphics, Brian's quite a good singer. |

This took me straight to my first Queen related concert, Brian in Rio, 1992. I was so anxious and nervous that my jaw hurt for a week after the gig. I think I experienced bruxism at night, which I never did aside from then. The radio broadcast sourced bootleg features me ruining Love of My Life. Cheers, Ogre- |

Love that song since they day BTTL has been released! Never getting bored of it. |

I'm glad Brian chose to do all the vocals himself - the Brian May Band girls are great for songs like Let Your Heart Rule Your Head, but wouldn't have suited this so well. Even the song Back to the Light could have benefited from just Brian harmonies, in my opinion. |

All three songs (Resurrection, Let Your Heart Rule Your Head and Back to the Light) are absolutely marvellous. |

I quite enjoyed that, forgotten how 80's it looked... (And yes I know it was made in the 90's). The bit where the ground starts to split beneath his feet his hilariously awful. |

One of my favourite Brian solo tunes. Especially love this live version, with Cozy on fire :- link |

Ah, I do like the Bo Rhap interlude, and the added couple bars of drum solo before they launch back into the last verses - 'There's no sense in my counting...' |

What a fantastic track - possibly the best Brian May solo song. But it makes me sad to watch this. Not because of the effects - they're just very of their time, so you can't knock that. But it's because Brian was on such a creativity spurt in the 90s, and that all seemed to die with Cozy. Brian wrote so many great songs in that period. |

Surprised to hear the demo of Resurrection for the first time yesterday: it seems like Brian's only significant input into the track were the arrangement and the lyrics. |

link Q. You’ve played with a lot of different bands and famous musicians over the years. Including Cozy Powell and Brian May. How did those opportunities come about, and what was it like to work together with them? Do you have any favourite moments, any career highlights, from over the years you’d like to share? Jaime: I did play in the studio with Cozy. That was highly intimidating at the time. We had some great moments, and there was a great chemistry there. I think I was honestly not able to fit that rock and roll mode though. I was not strong enough to be a part of that world. Cozy and all those in that scene had their own clique. I would not have survived that clique or lifestyle, realized it, and decided that it was not the path for me. Some of the songs made it to Cozy’s solo album The Drums Are Back, and then by default to Brian May, who Cozy joined up with. I was supposed to play on the song Ride To Win, but was pulled from it as Brian May got the nod. Brian then re-recorded that song (written by moi) and named it Resurection for his solo album Back To The Light. I never played with Brain sadly. Some songs, like Unchain My Heart remain tragically unreleased. That song was a defining song for me in 1989. Maybe the first hint of what was to come. |

Hence why Page is credited third. That interview is enlightening - thanks for posting it. She definitely knew her place in the process, and seems humble and grateful for it, for better or worse. If you write a song with one of the greats, any number of things can happen. At least she got the credit - ask Mick Taylor what that's like, and he played on four Stones albums. Even with 33% of Resurrection (or whatever the divvy is), no doubt she has done pretty well for herself. She was in a room with Brian and Cozy once or twice, and still gets regular cheques for it. Not many can say they've done that. |

There's no tone or substance to his voice whatsoever.I think he has some great moments on Queen albums that suit his voice - 'Sail Away Sweet Sister' and 'Some Day One Day' come to mind - but yes, generally he is NOT a vocalist despite his efforts or the attempts by those here who insist he can do not wrong to justify it. He is very much a backing vocalist/harmoniser - a guitarist who tries to sing lead, but is not is the same category vocally as other singing guitarists or bassists such as Eric Clapton, Sting, Richie Kotzen, Geddy Lee etc... My view is that Roger however is capable of holding his own as a vocalist against many others....strangely Brian has developed the 'frontman' and performance aspect somewhat for when he is fronting a song but doesn't have the voice, whereas Roger has the voice when up front but has no stage presence at all and looks like a spare part!! |
Golden Salmon 14.05.2018 08:55 |
Well, I guess that confirms "Ride the Night" doesn't actually feature Brian. |
