I never had chance to see Queen back in the day so I purchased a ticket to the Leeds arena last week and I was impressed. I wasn't really too fussed seeing AL and I had prepared myself prior to going to the concert with youtube videos etc. Firstly I thought AL did well. Sometimes a little bit over the top with his vocals but he did sing all the songs well and can now understand why we was employed by Queen. Brian May was just the same as all them years ago apart from the colour of his hair. But a man his age still running up and down was great to see,it was great to see. Pity I cant say the same about Roger. He looked overweight and very stiff on the drums,I guess its harder to maintain a good level of performance on the drums as it is on the guitar so I have to be fair on his age but he did look out of sorts. All in all im glad I went. I was disappointed they didnt include hammer to fall and now im here which I would have loved to have heard but if it was ever possible I would go and see them again. |

Hmm........I dont know, I think Roger's been sounding pretty good on the drums lately! I think Adam could do a good job on Hammer To Fall.........maybe Brian doesn't like playing it without having a 2nd guitarist? |

I think the reason why they are not playing it is because they are playing all those songs that havent been played in lots of years until recently like Lap of the Gods, Save Me, etc... |

New old stuff, that is.....as much as I'd like to see them playing a 3 1/2 hour set, that aint gonna happen....lol I dont know why I keep forgetting about Spike playing guitar, when he played on the 84 and 86 tours....... |

It is such a shame you missed seeing Queen live with Freddie Mercury, he was a diva and a true showman. Lambert does not come near the brilliance Mercury had, and his singing is just plain and boring. I agree Roger looks old and ready to drop, he should loose weight and get that ridiculous beard shaved off . Queen are now like duracell batteries on there way ready to go flat with not much juice left in them! Pity you have got to see them when they have now lost the old Queen magic. No Freddie & John = No Magic! |
softcalavera2 26.01.2015 13:39 |
I only think that i saw the live Guitar 's solo of songs like Save Me, Killer Queen and Dont stop me now....and this is very good for me. Adam can sing this songs. |

Roger did look like he's starting to have a hard time, I noticed Rufus's part of the drum solo was rather more impressive, and that he took over on TYMD which is a very heavy hitting song. Adam was a pleasant surprise. He really comes over much better in person than on the TV. Don't worry about Gerry, his opinion isn't relevant. |

i dont need to see this tour i saw enough on new years eve on BBC1 It truly disgusted me as a Queen fan that they have been mushed down to that! yuk! |

What I've always thought about the drum "battle" was that the pieces from Roger were all differently exciting, while the ones from Rufus felt kinda the same - as you said, "heavy hitting". They call it a battle but to me it's more Roger showing off his skills. No offense to Rufus he is doing a great job on this tour and he's still young. It's just, more impressive than Roger, really? O.o |

We have 40 years worth of RT solos as reference, there's no way he is as capable as he once was. He was definitely taking it easy compared to previous years. Rufus is basically mimicking Roger's style in the drum battle, but he's at the point where he can play RT better than RT can now. This is not a criticism, it's a very physical instrument, it's not at all surprising he is slowing down a bit at his age. |
Oscar J 27.01.2015 10:42 |
Rufus can't play RT. He's a more capable drummer than his father these days, but he doesn't do the hi-hat pzzzt with the snare hits, and he sounds uncomfortably stiff. You can immediately tell it's not Roger drumming. |

I've been ten years on this site, mainly lurking, the recent stuff with Adam has got me out of lurk mode and into posting again, because one thing Adam has done is get the boys out on the road again, and that is a fabulous thing. Gerry I rarely agree with you, but you do say one thing above that I agree with. "It is such a shame you missed seeing Queen live with Freddie Mercury, he was a diva and a true showman" Yes he was, he was amazing and Queen were amazing and I treasure the memories of those shows I saw and I do feel sorry for Queen fans who came late to the table and didn't get the opportunity. But this tour with Adam is the closest we've come since 92 to the classic concerts of old. At the show it feels like Queen, it feels organic and it feels like a band. It's a fabulous experience, Adam Lambert is an excellent singer and a fine showman. No he's not as good a showman as Freddie, and he's certainly not the songwriter Freddie was, but he is bloody good at this and by not going you miss the chance to see Brian and Roger, possibly for the last time ever. |
someonewholikesadam 27.01.2015 12:31 |
I feel like a broken record but ... on AL's fan sites the vast majority of fans are NOT screaming teens. They are intelligent, well-read, well-traveled *cough* mature women with excellent taste and skilled in recognizing great talent and great music, much like myself. And Gerry. |
gerry 27.01.2015 12:33 |
well if you like that sort of thing then good for you but i am too set in my ways to support a new Queen group after seeing Freddie play king of rock on stage, there is nothing else worth watching in my opinion. Adam Really wants to branch out and find his true niche in life and stop wasting his time singing the Queen back catalogue. Queen are wasting there time as well, because all of this does not serve any purpose other than making money. You never saw the Beatles get back together after Lennon was killed or Abba after they split, so why does Queen need to ruin the there spectacular history with a new singer? They do however seem pretty reluctant to go in the studios with Adam, especially after Paul Rodgers and Queen were a flop with The Cosmos Rocks album. My only thoughts are Queen and Lambert going live is just a hobby for Brian and Roger now, and since Freddie is not here you can see who kept the band disciplined and in order, yep Freddie. Brian has lost the plot and well Roger tags along because he has nothing more important to do! If you like whats happening with Queen now then that is your choice, but seriously, it will never be for me. |

Talking of Roger's beard and moustache, I like it. Makes him look all dignified and "Wing Commander Taylor". That moustache is definitely capable of being twirled. And yes, Roger is drumming great. It looks like hard work for him sure, but he's still delivering the goods. Rufus needs to watch and learn from the master. |

Saw Queen 2X in 1978 (New Orleans on Halloween Night, and in Oakland), 2X in 1980 (Essen and Frankfurt) and once in 1982 (Frankfurt). Saw the Brian May Band 1X in 1993, QPR 1X in San Diego on Apr 1, 2006 and QAL 1X in Houston on July 9, 2014. All of the Queen shows were, as expected, amazing. I was pumped for the QPR show because it was the first time I had a chance to see "Queen" (or 1/2 of it) since 1982 and they delivered a great show - great musicians playing great music. While the QAL show in Houston was good I can honestly say that Adam Lambert leaves me underwhelmed. He just doesn't have it - Brian and Roger have found someone that can mimic the songs well enough to pull off some of their "campier" tunes but he is in no way a "rock 'n roll" artist. You'll see when his new album comes out and crashes and burns. |
