It's well known that comic artist/painter Alex Ross (Marvels, Kingdom Come) is a big Queen fan. He's interviewed on the Flash Gordon DVD reissue from 2007 and did new art for that release.
Check out his comment a little ways down in this new interview about possibly doing a Queen album cover.
Intriguing. link
Here's a pic I took on the sly (no photography allowed as you can see in the pic) at the Alex Ross exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum back in February 2013, showing how Alex was influenced by the cover to Queen II. link
Interesting...
I was introduced to Ross' work because of Kingdom Come, one of the few DC comics I like.
Which album could be reissue with a new cover...?
very interesting information, thanks for sharing !
Alex Ross is a fantastic artist and wasn't aware he's a Queen fan, so to have him painting a cover for a new re-issue would be really cool.
"I've yet to illustrate Queen. Queen the band, not the queen.
Something with Freddie Mercury circa 1974. In fact I'm possibly working on a reissue of a Queen album cover or two..."
hmm.... it's either QII or ANATO as it's too early for a reissue of Rainbow :)
Someone of his skills would possibly work well increate a duplicate, or updated modern version of the Frank Kelly Freas NOTW artwork? I think a live album of a gig from the NOTW era would benefits from some custom artwork of that style, as opposed to one of Richard Gray's awful cut n past photoshop efforts.
And when he says "working on a reissue..." I wonder if that's actually at the request of Queen for a product release, or whether he means simply he's chosen to recreate one as a standalone project off his own back? It could be read either way I suppose.....
