Do the French people people want French Muslims to assimilate?

Was French immigration policy inadequate? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-islam-muhammad-paris-muslims-quran-perspec-0104-jm-20150113-story.html
I find that the US has similar problems regarding poor management of immigration policy, and wonder whether uncontrolled immigration has been a net benefit to the US.
Undocumented immigrants perform many jobs that most Americans are too lazy to perform, but there are also disadvantages of uncontrolled immigration (increased unemployment among US citizens, crime, drugs and increased visits to hospital emergency rooms etc).
I remember working at McDonald's as a teenager in the late 70's, (today's US teenagers are too special to work at a fast food restaurant) I remember the cleaning crews being able to speak english when I began working at my current employer 25 years ago. I remember buying a home in an average "integrated" Chicago suburb in 2000 because I did not want to pay the exorbitant property taxes in the richer suburbs of the Chicago metro area (rich Chicago suburbs generally have much higher taxes to pay for child education) We gambled that a new high school would eventually be built nearby our average suburb to accomodate the housing boom, but the US housing bust occurred 8 years ago and my kids attended a high school where english was not the primary language.
Unfortunately a bipartisan immigration solution in the US is elusive, because the Demcrats want free votes from immigrants, while Republicans want low cost labor from illegal immigrants.
in the Chicago area there was a high school where English was not the primary language? (Spanish, then?)
I shouldn't be shocked at that really.......for one thing, there is no official language in the US.....and I dont live too far from the largest concentration of Middle Easterners outside the Middle East......
The whole damn country was founded by a bunch of POed immigrants anyway.....lol
Yes - Spanish
I wish english was the official language, but i do not believe that the US Constitution allows for the establishment of an official language

How moderate is the Muslim population near you? I presume the Muslim population is mostly well adjusted?
Uh......honestly I really dont know ......it was a few suburbs over (Dearborn, MI, and I was living in Taylor)and I really didnt have much contact with them....probably knew more Middle Eastern Christians than Muslims really........
