it would have been too good for us to have Drowse in there, isn't it? well, if these are the "twists" announced by Brian ... One Vision leaves me cold, I'd really have prefered to keep Now I'm Here as the show opener. It worked really well on the previous leg of the tour. Save Me? let's see .... and I was hoping they kept I Was Born To Love You. They nailed it last time! Can't understand the "Japan / far east exclusive" policy on this one. |
tomchristie22 13.01.2015 05:45 |
Save Me... One of the most important Queen songs to me personally. I somehow don't think Adam's going to deliver it with quite as much emotion as Freddie. He'll probably throw an unnecessarily higher note in there to make up for it though. |
tomchristie22 13.01.2015 05:54 |
The small section where Brian and Roger do their lead vocals is the window where genuinely exciting things could happen - if only they'd break out of the fairly rigid thing they've gotten into. Brian sang Somebody to Love solo at one of the 2012 Hammersmith shows, and Show Must Go On at another, but I don't think he's ever going to be so adventurous again, especially since they're in front of somewhat bigger crowds now. Brian singing '39 live probably was exciting at one point, and it's a wonderful song, but it's been his lead vocal spot since the start of Q+PR... Not to mention that he's been playing Love of My Life the same way since 1992. He did sing Teo Torriatte in the recent Japan shows, which was a nice exception. |

Honestly, I'm disappointed. Now I'm Here was a tour highlight for me. Plus, I was hoping that I Was Born To Love You became a permanent song on the set list. But, with the exception of Save Me we got the same old again. At list they keep Stone Cold Crazy... |
tomchristie22 13.01.2015 07:51 |
Still, it'll be nice to hear how Brian decides to approach Save Me. Looking at their past live arrangements, there's a massive range of ways Brian could approach different parts of the song: Crazy & Game Tour arrangement (easily my favourite, perhaps even prefer it to the studio version): - Brian plays piano for the first verse, first chorus, second verse. - Brian plays electric guitar for the second chorus. - Freddie gets on piano while Brian plays a (stellar) electric guitar solo in place of the acoustic and synth instrumental from the album. - Freddie recreates the multi-layered guitar part on piano (much like he did on live versions of White Queen). - Freddie remains on piano throughout 'Each night I cry...' and the second guitar solo. - Brian plays the second guitar solo as per the album. - Freddie stands up for the last chorus, hence no piano. Brian keeps playing guitar. - Brian plays the closing chords, which were played on piano on the album, on electric guitar in a slightly altered manner (rather than the first three chords, D, Dsus4, D, played in all equal measures, he starts on D for the second chord then hammers onto Dsus4.) - The last chord is played big, with drums. Hot Space tour arrangement: - Brian plays piano for the first verse. - Brian switches to electric guitar for the first chorus. - Brian continues to play guitar for the second verse, whichever touring keyboard player they were with plays piano (actually piano voice on keyboard). He uses a pedal here to achieve a clean tone. - Brian plays guitar for the second chorus, keyboard player continues to play piano - Brian plays clean guitar for the first instrumental, emulating the acoustic guitar from the album. Piano continues - Keyboard, now with a different, much synthier sound, plays the multi-layered guitar part. (Sounds really bad, they rightly turned it right down in the mix on Milton Keynes DVD but you can hear it clearly on bootlegs). - Brian plays the second guitar solo as on the album. - For the closing chords, Brian emulates the piano phrasing more closely on guitar. He also plays using the clean sound. He has that hollow-bodied electric he uses for the start of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which is capable of sounding very much like an acoustic guitar, so he might try and emulate the prominent acoustic parts in the song - mainly the first verse starting at 'Years of care and loyalty...' and the first part of the first instrumental section, with the synth and acoustic. But then, he'll also want to play the Red Special for the lead guitar parts, I'm sure. Undoubtedly, Spike will play the piano (I wonder if Brian still plays piano, come to think of it. Last time in anything Queen related was 1997 as far as I know.) We'll soon see, anyway! |

If that's what we have to expect ... boring setlist - where are the surprises ??? |
jeffuk49 13.01.2015 08:52 |
Suprises??? actually feeling so deflated with the set list, been looking forward to this for a while, yeah could understand in 2012 when they only done a few gigs to keep the tried and trusted songs, but a full blown tour would have been nice to see a few new gems thrown in there |
someonewholikesadam 13.01.2015 09:34 |

jeffuk49 13.01.2015 09:59 |
I have bought 2 tickets and have done for every tour including solo stuff since 1984 and just feel a little deflated hopefully that set list was a red herring but yeah it is going to be great roll on Saturday |

*goodco* 13.01.2015 11:25 |
My little two cents....always thought 'Driven By You' and 'Man On Fire' would be nice 'twists', with Adam doing 90% of the LVs, and they'd really rip into them. |

True or not - expect only one or two changes. Until they play theatres instead of arenas, the setlist will contain 90% hits. Queen released 40-something singles, and this is what most people want to hear. Stop bitching and enjoy the show. Half of Queen is beginning a tour tonight. |

It's wonderful, it's like you can be there and share the joy of all the attendants. Adam did a good job on One Vision but I think that he wasn't singing as high as he could and this particular version seems "safe" to me. Brian's voice is not so great on 39', maybe he's stressed... |

Well he got me on Save Me, they started a cappella and Adam apprehended the beginning not with over-singing but with a soft voice. I really liked that. Brian's guitar tone is somewhat different on that little solo. Man, I waited for the greater work of his guitar on this song and they made it shorter. |

Just got back from the gig, it was fecking awesome. They played the entire Track 13 before coming out to One Vision, which was brilliant and perhaps leans towards the 86 gigs. Save me was a great surprise, as was Stone Cold Crazy, as thought that would've been earlier so didn't think they'd be doing it. Only, and I mean only down side? Lack of TSMGO. Roll on Saturday at the O2 in London! |

The only thing i didn't like from "One Vision" is that Adam doesn't sing the wowowo - yeah parts that are very important for the flow of the song. I sensed that maybe Roger was supposed to sing this but his mic wasn't loud enough!? That's the only thing i missed from this song. And i have the feeling that this song is very challeging for Brian at the beginning of the shows. He sounds nervous and his solos are in the most part very weak. After this song, he does a great show, but during this song - even in the Magic tour- he almost always sounds off. |

Save Me guitar solo was nice - '79-81 live solo, then playing the high melody from the multi-layered guitar section, whereas that was always done on keys in the original Queen tours. His tone was fairly different here, as somebody said earlier - we'll see what guitar he was using when the video goes up. |

He just has its volume knob down to about 2, which gives it a clean sound. Lambert does a lovely job on the song, and, dare I say, even sounds a bit like Mercury on the last line. |

It definitely seems like they meant to sing in place of Brian's second guitar solo. If it was just Adam making a mistake on his first live performance of the song (as has happened before), everyone else wouldn't have been so quick to join in singing. The punchier second solo wouldn't have fit the soft tone they were going for throughout the song, anyway. Thank goodness Adam went down onto the main stage for the latter part of the song, or the Adam-focused person filming that clip probably wouldn't have incidentally captured Brian. |

Save Me -- one of Queen's best rock songs, turned into a cheese fest by Queen+. Hard to see how anyone could like this version. It's dull as dishwater. One Vision -- seeing Brian's shadow/outline behind that curtain raised a few hairs on my arms. The performance though, was also a shadow of former glory. Lambert just does't have the voice for rock songs. |

3 minutes into that clip of One Vision and I had to turn it off - a mixture of incredularity, despair, anger and sadness. Thank christ I was lucky enough to see the band live with John & Freddie. No one should leave any of the current shows believing that they have seen "Queen". |
MercurialFreddie 14.01.2015 03:24 |

Save Me was a bit of disappointment - low on energy, and Adam kinda butchered the last bit, sounded quite off. Having said that, One Vision sounded pretty darn good to me, Brians silhouette together with that riff gave me goosebumps. |

Listened to some of last nights Newcastle show of the mixing desk today in Glasgow.....Not gonna start ranting again lol... pretty rough Adam screeching so hi and sounding a wee bit all over the place!! Brians voice isn't so good these days really either, and Roger sounding like he's maybe smoking too much? (not sure if he still does)..So I know I've been moaning a lot but did feel truly guilty about not going to watch a queen/solo related gig in Scotland and whilst in the arena today did think about hanging back to see show. But just cant, good luck to the younger fans who may enjoy this... |

ptr 14.01.2015 14:28 |
A kind Of Magic is just horrible - Roger and Brian are ok, but sorry - those drums are awfully simplified and his heavy style of drumming just dont fit to this song - it was probably fine for Tie Your Mother Down, but definately NOT for AKOM. |
cmsdrums 14.01.2015 16:01 |
Agree on Rufus' drums; he's an accomplished drummer, but when I hear someone else drumming to Queen tracks it is as glaringly obvious that Roger's sound and style are just as key to 'THAT sound' as the other three. It was the same with a player even as fantastic as Eric Singer - he played the drum parts quite true to the recordings but even then it was lacking.....and that's still the case. |

Great version of Magic. But I still say the best versions were in 2008, when Bri and Rog were playing together on the catwalk. They were having a blast. |

^ Do you think actually think they were better than with Freddie, say... the Leiden versions? Rogers drumming was a fair bit better back in 2008, even though he was rather overweight at that time. I wonder if he suffers from some kind of rheumatism these days, or if his arms and wrists are starting to get worn out. Watched some drumming videos of Ian Paice the other day, and he's still a god, about as good as he ever was. Doing one handed drum rolls and stuff. |

It's pathetic to see Roger standing there singing AKOM or playing maracas during TYMD :( Still, I'm having regrets for having only bought a ticket to Amsterdam instead of for more shows... :( |
