Dear Queenies, I was wondering, has anyone here ever tried to do a complete list of all Queen music videos (and mimed performances and things that more or less pass for promo videos). Darren from queenvideos.cjb.net did an terrific job on that subject. But since then, several other videos/edits have popped up. For years I have been moderately obsessing over Queen and their videos. I hastily slapped this list together, just the Videos until 1982 for now (excluding solo stuff and clips prepared years later for "Queen Rocks", the US "Greatest Hits" VHS, "Days Of Our Lives" and the like, but these will come up eventually, as I go along with this). I really could use some help from some of the experts here. - There is a lot of speculation and debate going on about those early TOTP performances from 1974/1975, who has the best guess? - Has anyone ever seen one of the Videos on these so called "EMI Holland Promo Tape"s? I've doubted their existence, until the 'Cocaine' edit of the "Bicycle Race" surfaced, apparently stemming from one these tapes. (Did I miss anything? Any information is appreciated) Part #1+2: 1973-1991 Keep Yourself Alive ['Old Grey Whistle Test' Video Collage] Keep Yourself Alive [Brewer Street Studios, August 1973] Keep Yourself Alive [Brewer Street Studios - different shots, info needed] Liar [Brewer Street Studios, August 1973] Keep Yourself Alive [St. John's Wood Studios, October 1973] Liar [St. John's Wood Studios, October 1973] Liar [St. John's Wood Studios, October 1973 - different shots] Seven Seas Of Rhye [Top Of The Pops 21/02/1974 - No Audience] Seven Seas Of Rhye [Top Of The Pops 14/03/1974 - With Audience] Seven Seas Of Rhye [Top Of The Pops 28/03/1974 - w/ Dave Lee Travis sweeping] Killer Queen [Top Of The Pops 11/10/74 - As seen on "Box Of Flix"] Killer Queen [Top Of The Pops 11/10/74 - Same setting, different take, GVH I] Killer Queen [Top Of The Pops 07/11/74 - As seen on "Days of our Lives"] Killer Queen [Top Of The Pops 21/11/74 - Different Set, Freddie in Red Jacket, lost] Killer Queen [Avro's Top Pop - November 1974 - Dutch Television] Now I'm Here [Live at the Rainbow - not a promotional video but featured on GVHI] Now I'm Here [Live at the Rainbow - with Backstage Inserts & Live Audio] Now I'm Here [Granada TV '45' Show - 25/12/1974 - lost] Now I'm Here [Top Of The Pops 16/01/1975 - recovered] Now I'm Here [Top Of The Pops 30/01/1975 - ???] Bohemian Rhapsody [Standard Version] Bohemian Rhapsody [Top Of The Version w/ Flame Effects] You're My Best Friend [Standard Version] Somebody To Love [Standard Version] Somebody To Love [EMI Holland Promo Tape - exists???] Somebody To Love [Top Of The Pops - Legs & Co. (Which I have yet to see, anyone has it?). It doesn't seem too unlikely that they filmed several run-throughs of that particular song. But probably only the one we know today is the single one that survived. "Las Palabras De Amor" aired on TOTP twice in 1982. |

Anyone more info about this one : Somebody To Love [EMI Holland Promo Tape - exists???] I know there was a TOPPOP (dutch variant of Top of The Pops) version of somebody to love. This shows Penny de Jager and her ballerteam dancing to Queens somebody to love. This was the usual thing when there was a big hit and they couldn't get the original artist or they hadn't recieved any promo clip at the time.... |

(1) You're right. I haven't seen that before. It is a completely different take during the drum solo. It is odd that this new montage utilises one of the BBC Version as the soundtrack. (2) Also, didn't notice. You're great! Slightly different editing. (3) I can't tell if those proper endings were there in the first place when editied back in the day or if they were newly restored and inserted for the DVDs. Many videos on both GVH volumes have longer/different endings. "Fat Bottomed Girls", "Friends Will Be Friends", "Hammer To Fall". (5) "Fat Bottomed Girls" is definitely from the 70s, why shouldn't it be? Or do you mean it was extended for DVD? "Bicycle Race" too? I had the impression this was the "rejected" video from back in the day. Why else would they have bothered with filming the naked race sequence? |

Interestingly this very same TV special from Italy also features this video but with backstage clips in the beginning, (similar to the 1992 edits but with live audio!) link So it might have been used for promotional purposes back in the 70s. |

I have still go the original clips of all the videos from 'the Miracle' album on VHS from when they orginally premiered on UKTV on 'The Chart Show....I suspect these are exactly the same common edits but I certainly recall 'I Want It all' being shown in different snippets over a couple of weeks, well before the single was released, so I suppose it's feasible these were early cuts that changed before the final version? I also still have an official promo VHS cassette in a blue card sleeve with a photo on the front, which I think is the same picture used for the 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' single cover. The video lists (from memory) three promo videos - 'Innuendo' and strangely 'Im Going Slightly Mad' twice. I don't know if the repeated one is an alternate edit or the same as I'm not sure I ever watched it! edit: just found a link to some details....link |

Not sure if these count but I have a Ford promo video for use in the showroom branded 'Driven by you' from 1991. This contains the standard Brian DBY promo and then several Queen tracks with Ford car production film over the soundtrack. I know AKOM is one of the tracks. |

The footage also has a narrower angle, meaning many of the shots only feature the top half of Freddie and Montserrat. During the instrumental introduction, this version has shots of fountains and the venue, whereas the original had more audience shots, and it also uses the 'Special Edition' full album version, rather than the original) Barcelona (Live Ku Club Ibiza, Special Edition Version - This is a mimed performance which uses the 'Special Edition' single version of the track. It has been edited slightly at the end of the track to show the bows, but otherwise seems to be the full performance) How Can I Go On (Special Edition Version - This uses footage of the original same performance, but edited slightly differently, with some alternate shots. The footage also has a narrower angle, meaning many of the shots only feature the top half of Freddie and Montserrat. This version starts later, and has a full outro, whereas the original video had more of the bridge from 'Guide Me Home' at the start, and just stopped rather than fully fading out. It also uses the 'Special Edition' version of the track, rather than the original) The Golden Boy (Special Edition Version - This uses footage of the original performance as above, but edited slightly differently, with some alternate shots. The footage also has a narrower angle, meaning many of the shots only feature the top half of Freddie and Montserrat. The original footage also had some shots in split-screen whereas this is all in full screen, and it uses the 'Special Edition' version of the track, rather than the original) |
