Hi guys!
I got a question: What's Jim Beach role in Queen?
He is supposed to be a manager but unless Im mistaken, he have no experience at all as a manager before (or outside) Queen, so, what's his position?
Is he some kind of stockholder in Queen Productions?
Have you even searched?
Use the search field at the very top of this page and you will find everything ever written about him on this site.
There is all the info you want right there in front of you.

I did it, sadly the search option is as buggy as the rest of the forum.

No one has any real experience of being a manager until they are a manager. And considering Beech has been in this role now for 35 years+, I would say he's now fairly expierienced.
He was a lawyer, specialising in music law I believe. He was responsible for something involving Queen (don't know if he had any involvement with moving from Trident to John Reid??) and they were obviously impressed and stuck with him as manager after they amicable came to the end of their contract with Reid. I would imagine that their (sensible) view after getting ripped off previously was that it was better to have a lawyer learning to manage, than a manager with no knowledge of law!
He has 'fingers in a lot of other pies' too - one example is that he envisaged, managed and produced the recent Monty Python 02 comeback shows, stemming from his friendship with Eric Idle (they were at university together).
etc...etc...etc...
Jim Beach was indeed a music industry lawyer, and worked the a practice used by John Read, and many other managers at the time. His position meant that he had an understanding of the business side of the industry.
When Queen split from John Read they decided to manage themselves, there by being in total control of any decisions. Remember the traditional job of a manager was/is to steer the artist through the business, and to make many decisions without the artists direct input.
With Jim Beach the Queen members made all the major decisions and he was the person who then made phone calls and wrote letters. I believe this is how they still operate, although he now has somewhat more say because as Freddies execiture he effectifly takes Freddies place in meetings.
As has been said, he does have his finger in other pies too. My understanding is that his company used to run the montreux jazz festival at one time., amongst other entertainment projects.
After thirty plus years in his current role to claim he has no history as a manager and that he came from nowhere is a bit inaccurate and besides most long serving professionals started off knowing little and learning as they went. Peter Grant was a wrestler before hooking up with Jimmy Page, at least Jim Beach had a trained proffessional backgrounding in the industry before he worked for Queen

Yes, and that is important.
We are all born not knowing anything about anything- even the highest regarded expert in any field started out with zero knowledge and had to learn.
And also one would think that a huge component in hiring a manager would be trust.
He had that going for him, too.
