Delilah seems to comes up a lot as one of the worst queen songs on this site. While not the best song. the opening two lines alone are better than some entire queen songs e.g. the hitman, some tracks on a kind of magic etc.
Yes, it is a very heartfelt song- much like the ones I sing to my own animals when I am being silly.
I can fully appreciate it on that level.
But IMO it had no place on a commercially released Queen album.
I think you have to see the song in its context. A very ill man who is stalked by the press who is left with little happiness in his life, the company with his cats.
Freddie wrote similar lullabies like Seaside Rendezvous and Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon. It is meant for some lightness on an otherwise quite heavy album (music wise but certainly on an emotional level).
So in my opinion it does it job in that way. Brian's guitarwork is quite magnificent and is humoristic. It's just tongue in cheek. Don't take it too seriously.

Brian playing cat meows immediately takes it out of any 'worst Queen song ever' list for me. That was/is hilarious.
That is easily the best part of the song! The one thing I like about it, actually......lol
Hm.........actually lately I've been thinking my least favorite song is OYOL..........not really any redeeming factors in that one for me! (also, tough for me to like a Queen song with NO guitar! That's just........wrong! Even Body Language had a TINY bit of guitar in it....)
Like the rest of the songs on Innuendo. I LIKE Delilah too. Innuendo is my favourite Queen album and the only album where I think all songs rank between good and excellent. Not even one average song. I love Freddie's vocals and the rhythm; and guitar solo is very beautiful in my opinion. I don't care much about the words. I just love the song. Finally, I like the "I love your kisses" ending too.

This needs to be cleared up asap.
Three... You forgot Bijou, Freddie's favourite cat.
That's two songs about two different cats on Innuendo.
(Disclaimer: I like Delilah. Not their best number, but it works for me.)

Opening two lines?
Delilah
Delilah
????
I'm in agreement with Roger regarding this only 'should be deleted' track from the LP.

I like Delilah a lot, but I feel they kind of did it in a rush, I think it needs a little bit of extra work.
Still, I like it!
I agree, they should have changed the music and the lyrics....
And maybe the title also. That title isn't the better for this kind of music.
Ha.........yeah, just change the music, lyrics, and the title, thats all the song needs! lol......uh, I think at that point it might be a totally different song....or was that the point all along?
Anyway, like I said in another topic, at least Delilah has some nice guitar work in it (the Red Special meowing, gotta love it!)
I think the only problem with the Delilah on Innuendo is the noisy following song; The Hitman - I always try to run to my stereo and skip to Bijou at the end of Delilah (which I like).
I feel a bit biased as I am a cat person ( love my doggies as well tho ) .....I love Delilah....I can so,relate to this song and it makes me smile....love , love, love the meows :-)
For me,Delilah is a sweet and fun song.It certainly is not the best song but it is so emotional.I mostly like these verses:"You take over my house and home
You even try to answer my telephone".:)
Delilah, obviously not brilliant but far from the worst Queen song. I could list at least 10 songs i like less, but I'm not gonna bother too list them.
