I was thinking....
There's Don't Try Suicide, Keep Passing the Open Windows, Don't lose your head...
And the last two are somewhat related to John Deacon.
I think he was having rough times during the 80's.
He looked alienated in the Budapest 86 footage.
Then there's the clip with him throwing out his bass to the amp wall at the end of Knebworth 86.
My guess is that the rock lifestyle was tearing him apart, and his bandmates were aware of that.
So it's totally understandable why he chose not to continue with the band after Freddie's death.
Discuss!
well he sounded chipper enough on a metro radio phone interview, in '86 regarding the ticket demand for st. James' park, Newcastle. '86.
. Would he have been so fragile or torn apart if he had been a welder, a bricky, a taxi driver or whatever.
He must have had some sense of luck/ privllege of the fact he was set up for life and would never have to rely on the daily grind, so perhaps any depression or whatever, was inevitable no matter what his circumstances.
Maybe all he ever wanted was to be just as happy as a factory worker, without the fame and with enough money to support his family. His withdrawal from the limelight at the first opportunity would support this. Maybe he actually felt guilt at living the life countless others could only dream of. Maybe he resented his talent at being a musician and songwriter... dont think we will ever know.
Wasn't the song KEEP PASSING THE OPEN WINDOWS originally going to be a song written for a film of the same name?
(I'm not certain of the production company or country of origin; but the concept was scrapped an it was adopted for THE WORKS instead)
I think I heard that on a picture disc interview I have
DTS probably comes from an 80's backlash at topical songs that were out at the time. Even the corny movie HEATHERS aludes to the time.
DON'T LOSE YOUR HEAD although it relates in hindsight to John and a driving arrest (I've heard) is ALSO tongue in cheek being humorous about a BIG CONCEPT in the film HIGHLANDER
I think it's dubious to extract that and assume it relates to John Deacon implicitly
' Windows' was intended for 'The Hotel New Hampshire'.
Oh, John's had long standing problems. 'Doing Alright' was written to try and pick up his spirits, even though Tim and Brian had never met him. The theme continued with 'Keep Yourself Alive'. John even wrote about a failed Russian Roulette attempt in his first credited song, 'Misfire'. And of his wish for 'death by cop' in AOBTD.
The list is endless

So. ... you're saying the band had advised him to keep GOOD COMPANY and Repent (JESUS, PROPHETS SONG)
I had no idea he was so troubled.
Was that also the reason he was admonished to PLAY THE GAME? (Still refusing in the video clip)
I hope he's in the able hands of a mental health professional
Pretty sure Don't Try Suicide was the product of working in Musicland Studios.
They stated in the DOOL documentary that some peeps jumped off the building above the studios during the recording of The Game.

I'm pretty sure that was during Hot Space
The poor souls must've overheard them recording Body Language
I lived in the Arabella when I was a kid in 1971 and witnessed a suicide. I never new the woman or her story, but have often wondered. Is there any link or online info regarding the history of 'Suicide Block'?
I think Freddie is the one more asociated with the surviving issue.
I remember Brian saying how he changed the meaning of Keep yourself Alive. Brian wrote it as a metapfor kind or... "life is more than just living" but Freddie sung it as it was a life or death scenario.
Also "Hang On in There" , " How Can Go On" and " Dont Try So Hard" sound all very involving for Mr.Mercury
