I've made this compilation album of rare songs just for my own enjoyment and I was wondering if I have the best versions of all these. If not, could someone maybe help me get the best one?
It's just a personal thing so I suppose there are some songs missing but I didn't want to include old / different versions of officially released songs (I did make another compilation of those...) As Queen doesn't seem to be releasing an album consisting of purely unreleased songs officially, I decided to compile one for myself, out of what's widely available.
It's more or less chronological and if someone would like it, let me know. I assume that most people have or have heard these songs by now though.
1. Polar Bear - this version isn't bad but it doesn't sound like it's the best possible audio. Does an actual ready-for-release sounding version like that exist?
2. Mad the Swine - the official one, audio is in pristine quality
3. Hangman - i just made an mp3 of the 'remastered' live at budokan 1975 one that's one youtube, because it was the best version of this song that I came across. Does anyone have at least an mp3 that's not a transcode or maybe even a better version?
4. Feelings - this is the song called 'silver salmon version one' on some bootlegs but it's definitely not Silver Salmon or another version of it. It ends with a few guitar notes that Silver Salmon starts with, but it sounds like it's not a soundboard recording, more like someone just recorded the thing in the room where they were playing. Is there a better version?
5. Silver Salmon - there are a few versions of this song and I probably have the best one on this compilation. It starts with a few notes that the previous song ends with, but the sound quality is different.
6. Feelings Feelings - the officially released one.
7. Let Me In Your Heart Again - ditto. Not really a rare song anymore but it fits the compilation for me.
8. Dog With A Bone - I think I've found the best version of this song; for years I listened to a recording that sounded a bit muffled and lacked treble.
9. I Guess We're Falling Out - Like all of The Miracle demos I've heard, sound quality is quite good but not near 'official release' quality. It sounds somewhat muffled, does a better version exist?
10. A New Life Is Born - see #9
11. My Secret Fantasy - One of the torrents found on this site provided me with a pretty much perfect sounding version. Thanks, QZ
12. Affairs - This is a strange one, it sounds like it was recorded at a fan convention, but it doesn't have the repeated 'property of queen productions' over the audio. I really like this song, is there an actual good version of this available somewhere?
13. Self Made Man - see #11
14. Robbery - see #11
15. Sandbox - the fan convention version, property of Queen Productions etc etc. I suppose this is the only version out there?
16. Face It Alone
There is a perfect version of Sandbox - OfficialQueenRomania is the one that's right if you search. It's quite HQ, but muffled occasionally. Nevertheless, it's the best clear version available. Out of all the 'spare' songs, so to speak, are you just picking your favourites and then hunting for HQ versions? Because I see you're missing out My Boy (which would come 7th chronologically), Back to Storm (8th) and the Highlander version of New York New York (11th) on your list just for starters, all of which I have in good-enough quality. As for your note about Feelings, I always wondered where that spare note on Silver Salmon came from, but I was under the impression that Feelings was impossible to find when searching for bootlegs from the debut sessions. Especially YouTube-wise - I've never found it!

Hey, thanks. Do you mean this one? link
Because that's the one I have. It sure doesn't sound perfect to me, like i said it sounds like a convention recording but without the continuous 'property of QP'.
My Boy - do you mean this version? link
It's a Brian solo track isn't it? I know it did start during Queen album sessions - is there a Queen version out there?
Back To Storm - I should include that. I have it but it never left a big impression. Having said that, Face It Alone didn't either to be honest.
New York New York - i know the short snippet from the film, there was never more out there was there?
About Feelings, it's on the The Vaults 5cd bootleg I think. It's usually called 'Silver Salmon version 1' but I think that's incorrect. It's nothing great, sounds like a short jam session. Not bad though.
It would be OK if I post the collection I have of demos and those kind of tracks, and if you have some track that I don't have, I upload it there? To have a full collection for everyone and not have to research every time any of you want demos in the best quality available.
