OK, thanks to this site, I am now somewhat of a bootleg collector............(and I should really say, thanks to bokkepoot, or however you spell that)............wondering if anyone here collects bootlegs of any other bands............I just recently got a Rush bootleg........from the show I saw back in 94!!! which was cool................turns out its like the best bootleg of that tour, in terms of quality................and uh.............its freakin RUSH..................(oh did I mention I love Rush????) |
The Real Wizard 26.11.2014 10:46 |
Big collector here. Zeppelin, Beatles, Rush, Floyd, Genesis, Yes, and Dream Theater are my big ones. Which Rush show was it? There are a few great board tapes from 94. My favourite Rush show is St Louis 80. It was bootlegged for years, but a pre-FM copy came out a few years back. If you're into Rush, give Max Webster a try. They were Rush's opening band for years. They had the quirkiness of Zappa, but a lot more accessible. They only did five albums, but there's such a wealth of good music in each of them (including a tune with Rush called Battle Scar - although I'd still say it's far from their best work). |

I have checked out a little bit of Max Webster..............cool band!!! It was the RUsh show uh..............3/22/94.............the Critical Mass bootleg........................(ridiculously great quality............EX) |

Max Webster............or rather Kim Mitchell.............was the answer to a trivia question that bugged me for eons...............who did that Lets Go For a Soda song???? LOL |

Its funny how Queen fans seem to really like other really crap bands.. Rush... Kiss.. and something called 'Dream Theatre'? Are Queen the exceptionally good band in a mountain of dross or part of it?? :-( |

I have a *lot* of jazz bootlegs. Lots of John Coltrane and 1960s modern jazz, also some older stuff including a unique Woody Herman-rehearsal with Charlie Parker soloing. @Mooghead: de gustibus non est disputandum. |

It was probably true in the early '70s, but people have become so much more used to 'outlandish' music that I don't really think it's much more than a preconception to say that Zappa is inaccessible. Ok, some of his music is easier on the ears than other, but the same goes for bands like Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, who would hardly be described as inaccessible bands. Hell, I can't even think of one Zappa-record that is more inaccessible than David Bowie's "Lodger", which I still find unlistenable despite being a pretty big fan of Bowie's work of that period. And let's not forget Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music"... |

LOLYup, that's him. And even though it's just a few years later, it's almost completely indistinguishable from his work with Max Webster. |

The King Of Rhye wrote: by the way.........Clockwork Angels is the freakin bomb...................Yup. Rush is probably the only one of the 70s bands who are still creating music that is consistently reviewed as being about on par with their classic era. Snakes and Arrows was excellent as well. |

In fact, your choice of wording is in itself an admission that you have no idea who Dream Theater even are. Kiss are a middle of the road commercial cash cow, while Dream Theater and Rush are art. Dream Theater may be more of an acquired taste, but Rush are undeniably creators of excellent music that will be cherished by tens of millions of people for decades to come. Put on Exit Stage Left and listen to some of the best rock music ever created. Nothing in the Kiss catalog remotely compares to its depth and diversity. Your statement is more a statement about the state of your ears than the tastes of other Queen fans whose ears are clearly more refined than yours. |

Hot Rats, Overnite Sensation and Joe's Garage are accessible, at least to my ears. But to people whose tastes barely expand beyond today's top 40 pop? I think you overestimate the average person's capacity for anything beyond the 3 minute pop song. Uncle Meat and Jazz From Hell, on the other hand, just plain aren't accessible by just about any standard. And when I compare Max Webster to Zappa - Max had all the quirkiness and bizarre arrangements, but nearly always said what they had to say in under 5 minutes, and with melody always coming first. |

I about lost my mind when I heard the opening notes of that............).......and maybe the 2 Metallica shows I saw....:) Maybe see if I can find a bootleg from every show I ever saw.........hehe............... |

Nobody knew if they'd ever play again, so I never thought I'd ever get to have the Rush experience. Fortunately that wasn't the case, and I've seen them seven times. |

link used to be an awesome source for bootleg dowloads. I have not been there for a year or so, but in the past there was some fantastic stuff from a large variety of bands (including Queen). |

I've got a ton of Zep and Nirvana stuff saved. A bit of the Page & Plant No Quarter tour and some stuff of The Doors saved somewhere. |
