A question, Can a photo "style" have a copyright?
The reason I ask, is I have seen a "Limited Edition poster" of "Queens of the Stone Age" (see Photo) which is worked around the idea of the "Queen 2" album cover.
Now you may say that "Mick Rock's" photo shoot & the Bohemian Rhapsody Video, is a copy itself of the "Marlene Dietrich" Photo shoot from years back.
But can anybody Legally recreate somebody else's album cover, in their style, including the font?
it's not really a rip-off is it?
how can it be? the album barely charted outside of the UK (no5) - Japan (no26). So it's not as if QOTSA are looking to make big sales off the back of something famous.
if they were they'd have used Abbey Rd - as many many artists have
'Imitation is the highest form of flattery?'
Maybe there's a comment in their liner notes.
I think back 40 years, and when I saw the Queen II cover for the first time. I thought it was a homage to 'Meet the Beatles' (With the Beatles).
Van Halen's 'OU812' certainly was (amongst others).
Enjoyed the Blur video and the BoRhap-ish bit.
