"An early promo cassette of the album lists a completely rearranged tracklisting, losing 'Is This The World We Created' but adding 'I Go Crazy' and four other tracks which turned up on later Queen or Solo projects, namely: 1. Tear It Up 2. Whipping Boy (I Go Crazy) 3. I Want To Break Free 4. Machines (or Back To Humans) 5. Man On Fire 6. Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart (Let Me Live) 7. It's A Hard Life 8. Your Heart Again (Let Me In (Your Heart Again)) 9. Man On The Prowl 10. Radio Caca (Radio Ga Ga) 11. Hammer To Fall 12. Keep Passing The Open Windows 13. Man Made Paradise" I found it here: link Someone have it? Someone can share it? That should be a golden mine. Imagine: Man On Fire with Freddie in lead vocals. Let Me Live with Rod Stewart. Let Me In without Auto-Tune and without new harmonies from Brian. And Man Made Paradise played by Queen. |

Now that would be interesting to hear! On a somewhat related note..............I thought I read somewhere that there was a Queen version of New Dark Ages lurking somewhere in the archives..................perhaps attempted for the Innuendo sessions?? |

It's not an early promo cassette, that's a misleading description on the site's part. As far as I remember, it was an early compilation tape of songs recorded up to that point during the sessions, with the track list found recently by Ratty (I believe), but not the tape. |

Easy to make your own alternative The Works playlist now with all those tracks. Funny how quite a few titles share the same theme - Man On Fire, Man Made Paradise, Man on the Prowl. Not to mention "Let Me.." Let Me Entertain You Let Me Out (Brian solo) Let Me In Into Your Heart Again Let Me Live |

Inspired by Paul Revere & The Raiders, perhaps?;-) One can make their own Queen double LP 'Works' release from this era (other than the sound mix of Mr Bad Guy not quite fitting). Rumours of 'It's An llusion' FM vocals float around, so that's another track that would have been a good fit. So, with all that was going on, why was this LP so short in length? Was there such friction at the time, that rather than adding another track or two over any slight objections, they decided on not including any others? Or am I reading too much into that? |
Khizzy 10.11.2014 17:42 |
Such a shame that this tracklisting wasn't the final one!! I think it would have made a really positive difference to how the album sounded as a whole - add the original Queen version of There Must Be More To Life Than This and it would have been a cracker. As it stands, it's possibly my least favourite Queen album along with AKOM - far too short and too many crap tracks. |
MAYniac91 10.11.2014 18:08 |
I'm pretty sure... QP and both, Brian May & Roger Taylor, knows very, very good what songs are in the archives and what a rich fundus they have to release all the stuff partly from time to time. Queen Forever is only the beginning! |
MadTheSwine73 10.11.2014 19:20 |
I think that if there's a Queen version of Man on Fire, Roger is still probably singing the lead. I would love to hear a Freddie vocal version, but I don't think it's likely that it even exists. |

A brief story about this cassette. It was me who found this tape, along with the Garden Lodge tapes way back in about 1995/6. I was searching through one of Feebies boxes looking for records and came across these gems. Although both cassette tapes for the GL recordings were inside their boxes, 'The Works' one was indeed empty. |

If you want/can, we want to know about the research and all that stuff made for the Freddie's boxset. At least a bit of that. I think that would make us appreciate your work as archivist. Also, thanks for the information. It's very appreciated, more if it's from the same person who made that research, and also is one of the archivists. :D |

You are getting me mixed up with Greg Brooks, Queen Archivist. He was responsible for the FM Box Set, and a mighty fine job he did too. |

Surely tho now that Let me in and Let me live have both been released (Brian said he transferred the analogue tape to digital format for Let me in) the tape is no longer missing. So presumably Brian has the tape? |
tero! 48531 11.11.2014 23:11 |
A cassette with one or two songs might be a genuine demo tape, but surely a 14 track lists means it would have been used to listen the studio recordings at home. And that means there are better sources available for the same material. For all we know, the tracks on this tape were already mostly finished, and tracks like Man On Fire and Man Made Paradise are alreay 95% versions of the later released songs, including the same vocal takes. |
BETA215 11.11.2014 23:30 |
^ I thought about something like a 'leak' of the cassette. And in that way, hear Man Made Paradise from Queen, and Let Me Live with Rod Stewart (or at least the 1984/85 demo). Because Queen isn't going to release the anthology with inedit demos, inedit studio takes of old songs, professional clips from Queen live (à la Knebworth) at least mixed with amateur recordings of the same concert, amateur recordings in good/excellent quality. Or almost all of that. Sorry sir for the confusion. I had written a reply (a lengthy one) earlier but my pc crashed and keep crashing. I don't know even if this comment is going to appear in QueenZone, but at least I tried it. |
Khizzy 12.11.2014 04:36 |
The official Queen Facebook account has uploaded a picture of an original master tape dated Sep 1983, featuring a number of Works tracks including Let Me In Your Heart Again and more interestingly Man On Fire (with the title "I Feel Like A Man On Fire"). However, Man On Fire was crossed out with the comment "Master in Montreux" next to it. Does this mean that a Queen version of the song is out there? Or was the song spliced out of the tape, never to be found again? I think the most important question to consider is whether or not the version recorded by Roger was intended for inclusion on The Works anyway? The reason I say this is because Brian features on the recording, and we know that Roger played the vast majority of instruments on other Queen songs before (i.e. Fight From The Inside). However, by 1984, Roger and Brian's lead vocal contributions on albums had stopped, so maybe there is a version with Freddie on vocals? Who knows? Perhaps we will never know. |
cmsdrums 12.11.2014 05:59 |
I'd state that, based on the track listings on Queen master tapes being inclusive of Man on Fire, that it does exist in Queen form. A Tero! says above, the lost cassette tape is going to be a copy run off in the studio from the master tapes for listening to away from the studio, probably pretty close to completion of at least demo versions of all those tracks, if not of the final versions. |

All 'The Works' needs is to add two-three more songs as it's one of the shortest albums. Nothing to remove. |

Golden Salmon 02.11.2017 18:22 |
Funny how the album is their shortest one (AKOM has 9 tracks too, but they're longer on average) when they could have easily included at least one more song. I guess they didn't consider any of them worth including and ultimately didn't bother to refine those tracks for the final release and considered that they had a proper product without them, so whatever. |
dysan 03.11.2017 08:24 |
The tat that is on both AKOM and TW I think it's hard to imagine they were scared to add more tat. |
