They were looking for a font that said '1970s'. They chose a font that was used frequently in the late '60s and '70s ("L.A. Woman" by The Doors, "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys, "Freak Out", Zappa/Mothers, the tv series Dad's Army to name a few). I don't think it's an especially attractive font (not especially ugly either), but it's a very appropriate choice if you consider that they were going for a 1974-look. It fits in well with the rest of the artwork, IMHO.
Well, they choose that font in early 90's, I believe with the VHS release. So, what would you expect? A different font? If that font fits with the named 70's effect.

Yeah, it does just scream '70's' I guess...........lol.................if I had been in charge of designing it, I would have just went with the Queen II '91 Hollywood Records reissue's font............
