I'd like to listen the IEM by itself... |

Ale Solan wrote: I'd like to listen the IEM by itself...From first listen, it appears that the IEM feed is prominent in the mix (maybe 65 to 70 per cent), if that helps! Once again, it's a very well balanced IEM - doesn't appear that too much has been done to it during mixing. The 19,000Khz tone that is common in IEMs seems to be there, too (the biggest giveaway that something is an IEM as opposed to an ALD or SBD tape). Some IEMs that are out there are hideous - dry drum sound, guitars non-existent, interference in feed. U2 ones are known for having click tracks present, too. The holy grail would someone be recording all the IEM feeds used at these shows. I'm not sure if Roger or Brian are using them yet, but Neil probably will be on bass. |

Plus it's not a seamless matrix of the concert as it omits Brian's solos. I guess the taper isn't releasing the IEM by itself as it's more profitable to be releasing permutations of the matrix lol |

terraj wrote: I guess the taper isn't releasing the IEM by itself as it's more profitable to be releasing permutations of the matrix lolI agree - I've never heard an IEM feed that doesn't sound better when mixed with audio sources. That said, virtually every Springsteen show in America since 1999 (roughly 150) has been recorded by an IEM taper, but barely 20 have been released. So while mixing IEM feeds with AUD tapes can be a way of earning money for recordings (something that I've ever done, but plenty have), trading among the Über traders can prove even more beneficial. |

One thing I've noticed listening tonight is that the main audience source used is not the same as the tape which circulated shortly after the concert. |

bit of an old topic! but I'm curious on how you could capture an IEM covertly, as all the IEM recorders I've seen are huge chunky boxes! Cheers :) |

A Nightwish recording from 2012/04/20 which was just an IEM feed was recorded outside the venue. Fengo wrote:Yes. There's a well-known American taper who has pulled some impressive multi receiver recordings by sitting in his car outside arenas. It's not the easiest - the signals don't travel too far, so you have to be right up close.NickESB wrote:Another option is doing something more obscure, having someone outside the venue recording the IEMs, and someone inside getting an audience recording. A friend and I had a test run at a popular London venue recently doing similiar, albeit with solid but not spectacular results. |
