Hi Queenies, I'm a collector of audio shows from a lot of bands(off course is Queen one of them). I was browsing through the queenlive site and was staggered by the amount of live shows recorded but not circulating. I was wondering who owns these recordings and why do they keep sitting on them(well not literally off course). I also read somewhere that Brain said that all queen shows are recorded by the band so they could listen and evaluate the shows. Is this true. If so, do you think they are still in existence? I wish they would open up a website where you could download the stuff. Imagine that you could own all queenconcerts on cd.....well enough to get me going, that's for sure! |

There are countless reasons why shows don't circulate, the most common being tapers don't want to let them out. "Freezer" most infamously dangled the New Orleans 71/72 carrot at Zeppelin collectors for years. And he dangled his New Orleans 74 master of Queen at us, insisting the best circulating copy is about a tenth gen. On the bright side, plenty of new tapes have come out in the last few years - Providence 74, The Hague 74, Yokohama 75, Boston 76, and 8mm films like New York 75, San Francisco 77 and Lakeland 78. Some of this was the stuff of legend a few years ago, and some of it was beyond our wildest dreams. And now the Rainbow release dwarfs them all. It's best to be grateful for what we do have instead of lamenting what we don't. Much better use of energy, methinks. Or, of course, we could spend our time searching for more tapes, which occasionally does prove fruitful. The tapes Brian is talking about are two-track board feeds that they'd usually listen to in the limo to critique the show on the way back to the hotel. Every show from 75 (or so) onward was recorded. Those aren't ever getting out - you can bet your life. Unless that's where the Richfield 77 and Sun City 84 board tapes are sourced from ? The things we'll probably never know.. |

It would be interesting if Queen followed up on the idea being listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootleg_recording#Commercially_released_bootlegs "Queen are slowly releasing 100 bootlegs for sale as downloads at their Online Store, with profits going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust." |

Some bootlegs, contained (for example) Queen Rock Montreal, fake shows, or BBC sessions. No quality enhance. Only profit for the Mercury Phoenix Trust. They should release their best soundboard-audience recordings in FLAC online or in CDs. |

Yeah I remember those gigs being on Spotify for a time which I found fascinating. Was more fascinated that they had essentially uploaded copies of what we already had. Noble quest and reasons for sure but you have to question what the archivist team do. |

There will be more to come in the next few years I'm sure |

Does anybody have these bootlegs for sharing? I am very interested in this... |

But why would they upload stuff already available while they probably have tons of very cool stuff in their archives. I wish Greg Brooks could tell us what soundboards are available in Queen's archives.. |
The Real Wizard 22.10.2014 12:33 |
Well, he did tell us which shows were filmed, and there is not a single show that was properly recorded (16 tracks or more) that wasn't filmed - these two things were done hand in hand. So there really should be no surprises. |
Slick2007 22.10.2014 13:32 |
that's too bad then. By the way, are you the webmaster of the queenlive site? If so, you really have one hell of a site, very informative and easy and fun to read., I can spend their hours! But how do you know all that stuff concerning the uncirculating recordings????lol(I bet you're not gonna tell!!) |
brians wig 22.10.2014 15:05 |
There are quite a few UK shows that were recorded by 'fans' that became friends with the band. Because of that, these fans don't feel happy about sharing their recordings, although as the years have gone by, it has been made known to people through conversation which shows were recorded. THIS is how we know some of these uncirculated shows exist. Before you ask, no, I am not one of those fans. I'm not old enough to have been there :( |

Of course there are countless stories of recordings from all kinds of bands, and it's really impossible to list them all. Suffice to say, most things eventually do come out, but some never will. It's a pretty good ratio. |

Why would they spent the extra bucks on aiming mikes, a mobile recording studio , extra crew etc. when there are no plans with the recording. Shame some multitracks are lost (79) or not in good condition (77).... |

Houston wasn't recorded by the band but by the vunue, and Earl's Court was never intended to be released so... |
Barry Durex 23.10.2014 03:14 |
There are some audience recordings listed at link which have never been shared on QZ as far as I'm aware. It's one of those things, they are shared amongst a small circle with a view to trade them. Sooner or later we get to hear them I suppose, although it's generally MUCH later. |

In fact, they did a brand new mix of the first night that was available to listen to at the Stormtroopers in Stilettos exhibition in 2011. It's beyond me why this hasn't been officially released or even put up as an iTunes download if they already did the work. |

Well, we know for sure there's a soundboard recording of Sun City 19-10-1984 :-) We know the second part exists so I'm just hoping that one finds its way onto the internet... Anything else would be fantastic but there's no use in speculating about things we don't know. Anyone in the know is welcomed to share any relevant information though haha. |

Kalamazoo 1977 The Christmas Concert 1977 (LA?) Syracuse 1977 These exist, but haven't seen the light of day (yet). |
Doga 24.10.2014 04:19 |
^ Source? We agree Queen have a lot of soundboards in their archives, but the interesting here is know how many multitracked shows they have. |
Slick2007 24.10.2014 06:25 |
it's a pity Bri and Rog are such perfectionists concerning their archive material. So what if the sound isn't up to snuff just release it for the hardcore, as long as it's listenable it's ok(off course the better the sound the greater the pleasure!) |
Slick2007 24.10.2014 06:27 |
Don't read this the wrong way, but what will happen if the people concerned with the queen archives are all dead all dead and gone?? |
Michael Allred 25.10.2014 01:04 |
A stereo mix of any show is just fine by me. |
