How can it be possible for ticket master, ticket factory to be able to buy large amounts of tickets for Queen shows and most big shows add about £40 onto the face value ,then £10 booking fee and £10 postage. What a rip off ! It was far better when you just booked through the venue.A Queen fan i know has just paid £240 for two tickets at the back in the crap seats at the O2.What a rip off.I remember going to Knebworth and paying £12.50 ha ha ! I know things have moved on but is it not getting a bit out of hand and are the true fans just being forgotten about?
The big rise in ticket prices over the last 10 years is because of Artists & record companies, not Ticketmaster so much. Most bands can't make a lot of money selling records anymore, live performances is where the money is.
And considering how outrageous ticket prices have become across the board, I personally hope the whole live-thing falls down entirely so that we can start things anew at reasonable rates. If you adjust for inflation and the likes, a reasonable ticket price (based on what big name bands sold tickets for in 1974/75) would be around $35.
Both the above statements from Pingfish and thomasquinn are not !00% acurate.
It is usually the promoter, not the record company or artist who sets ticket prices, yes an artist may have a set fee from playing live, but at the end of the day it is the promoter who pays that fee having worked out if it is financially viable to do so. Remember a promoter is in this business to make as much as he can.
You can avoid paying the high ticket agent, and postal, fees by going direct to the venue box office. by so doing if you pay in cash you will only pay the face value of a ticket! we seem to live in a world where people forget that life is something that happens beyond a computer or laptop keyboard!
The $35 ticket price may well be in line with inflation, but the cost of putting a show on the road is far higher than inflation would have you believe. Shows are far more advanced, there is far more equipment used in a modern rock show compared to most mid 70's shows, and crew staffing levels are far higher, insurance for equipment and crew members and venues is much higher.
The current Queen tour, in the States used 13 semi trucks. In the UK and Europe it will be 14 or 15 because the trailers are 40 or 45 feet instead of 50. the extra fuel needed is a huge extra cost, and is at a much higher price than in the US.
So ticket prices and touring costs are not as black and white as you may think.
To be fair, Queen (at £75 this time around for the 02) is pretty reasonable given the going rate for some acts; I'd rather pay that to see true legends put on a true rock show for possibly the last time, than £150-£200 a ticket to see someone such as Madonna mime her way through a cabaret show performance surrounded by 35 backing dancers.
I paid £139 for 2 tickets for Nottingham including p &p. Has anyone received there tickets yet? Nothing from ticketzone yet except an email confirming my order and money going out of my account.
Yes,......this is the price we pay for downloading music for free. I remember paying 28 Dutch guilders (£15 pound) for a ticket for 'The Works' tour/concert in 1984. And that's for the original band, those were te days.

Yes. Those were the days! Back in 1982, I'm sure I paid around £4.24 for Hot Space in a record store and around £5.00 for a ticket for the tour. If these prices were in force today, albums would cost around £50!
I don't know about you guys. But I CAN accept a "venue charge" but I LOATHE having to pay a "convenience fee" even WHEN I'VE GONE STRAIGHT TO THE FUCKING TICKET BOOTH THE DAY THEY'VE GONE ON SALE.
Convenience?
I hadn't used up ANY man hours or ANY extraneous persons time.
In fact. ..I SKIPPED WORK THAT DAY to be FIRST IN LINE.
Crock of shit.
If we keep paying them then that's what it is.
Go listen to a young artist sing their heart out at the local pub. Buy it on dvd for $10.
Fuck em.
I spent a lot of money on this Tour. Might have been exiting but for the emotional stress i was in. But. Concerts overall. Nah.
A great show doesn't need lights and tricks.
This one was upsold as well.
Lambert may end up a commodity whether you like it or not
Me? ....I think his blatant pandering to the gay audience will garner him a lifetime credit with said community. He won't have to do anything except stay healthy, sing and not wind up like meatloaf. .. That other dramatic fag.
A fat. .... bloated. .... oaf..
Do it for yourself meatloaf! Live!
