Yup. Thought this was pretty special. One or two of the Freddie lines are absolutely spot-on, particularly when he tries the lighter style of singing. It's quite interesting that in general the Fred tone he has there is more of a late 80s/early 90s Fred. Some bits sound like they could have been taken from the Innuendo album - that's not the Fred voice that people usually impersonate. Though I guess that's just how it turned out, given the natural timbre of Marc's voice. |

No interest in that Queer fronting Brian and Roger now with his porn movements and vulgar jokes. Sorry... he's having fun on stage and yes he has a great voice , but he makes one big disaster of the Queen legacy. |

Adam is not Freddie, of course, Adam is Adam, a live artist being original in a live band with original members. How can someone prefer a guy with an amazing vocal range, nice chemistry within the band, and a personality of his own over a wannabe? If he looks like Freddie, sings like Freddie and moves like Freddie, but is not Freddie, then its an impersonator. ___________________________________ impersonate vb tr 1 to pretend to be (another person) 2 to imitate the character, mannerisms, etc., of (another person) |

The closest we can ever get to that guy is Marc Martel. He sounds amazing and he doesn't do stuff that makes people angry. Don't get me wrong, I like Adam but what he did to WATC on the 2012 tour (and probably also this year) made me furious. Just one example of how his oversinging destroys Queen songs. Also his live performances are way too camp for my taste. And yes, so was Freddie's in the 70s. |

Marc is fabulous. His voice is professionally trained. Yes, he would have made a wonderful man if not for 1) he is a married man 2) he is not gay ) his former band was a Christian band 4) he speaks at least two languages, and is obviously an educated man 5) he is not theatrical on stage 6) he plays musical instruments, writes his own songs Therefore, he is not of interest to Brian and Roger as a collaborative partner. link For those of us who really like him, let us show it by supporting his music. |

Just like Marc, Adam is professionally trained too, but Freddie wasnt, so what? That's irrelevant. Adam is his own character, which may be loved or hated, just like happens to everyone who dares to be original. Marc? Well, the guy can sing, of course, but if he want to be original he should stop being a wannabe and be himself, just like he did before the QE. |

I'm gonna follow his career with interest, I have a feeling the comparison with Freddie will haunt him though ! |

I think you have some serious issues if you're able to dismiss this guy as a wannabe anything. |
The Real Wizard 02.10.2014 10:38 |
Mindblowingly awesome. I also hope the Freddie typecast doesn't follow him around. But - it's what gave him his name. Let's see if he breaks the typecast. If Julie Andrews and Adele could do it, so can he. |
YourValentine 03.10.2014 16:33 |
He really sounds nothing like Pavarotti. There are oceans between the two voices. Like other posters before me I think he should find his own voice, he is a very good singer and should emancipate from the big names. Rather than a shade of Pavarotti he should become an excellent Martel. |
The Real Wizard 04.10.2014 09:51 |
Well sure, he isn't a trained tenor. But the fact that he can sound that similar to both of these greatly varied voices is pretty impressive. That said - indeed, I hope he focuses on his original music from now on, otherwise he'll be a prisoner of his influences. |

He should begin to seriously lay out the map of his own musical path rather than allowing destiny to have its way with his career. |

winterspelt wrote:I think it is obvious that Queen wanted a gay singer. The perks that come with AL is his big fan following, his willingness and ability to do the vocal masturbations, his attractive appearance, his theatrical style, and his willingness to perform ONLY Queen songs and to be on call for Brian and Roger to do shows. This doesn't make him better than anyone else to the masses, but I am sure Brian and Roger appreciate all of the above.FreddieCat wrote: Marc is fabulous. His voice is professionally trained. So, there you go again with the sexual preference, which is irrelevant for a musician... Adam is a natural choice, of course. Marc is not. Lets see: Paul is more famous than Adam, so, the "big fan base" point is a lie. Adam is not huge, in fact many Adam fans consider the Queen tours as an amazing way to promote him and make his fan base bigger. You can read all that stuff in forums, youtube videos and over twitter. You can see how many albums he sells and the amount of people (and dates) for his solo tours and see that his fan base is not as huge as some people claims. Adam fans are his fans because of his totally original personality and skills. Marc fans are his fans because of his personality (which used to be stronger before QE than now) and skills... And also because he sings like Freddie and looks like Freddie. Willingness and ability to do the vocal masturbations: Are you talking about Freddie or Adam? The last time I heard Queen/Freddie songs I heard a huge willingness and ability to do vocal masturbations... Both live and in Studio. When Marc sing Queen songs he HAVE to do all those vocal masturbations because Freddie DID them too. Could it be that Adam was chosen because the guy can sing but also because Adam is capable of bring fresh air to already known songs instead of, you know, have someone singing like the very original Freddie Mercury? His attractive appearance: Marc looks a lot like Freddie, a guy with a huge sex appeal to both male and female audience, very much like Adam, but in a different way. Cant see how this is a point to consider. His theatrical style: Well, Queen songs are not just full of vocal (and guitar) masturbations but also lots of theatrical stuff both live and in studio, when you have that kind of songs sung by a non theatrical singer you have something like Q+PR: A lineup that can't cover a lot of amazing Queen songs. And an album like TCR which, despite the fact that I, for one, love, lacks the theatricality and originality Queen has been known for since 1974. When you are in an original band like Queen, with teathrical songs, you need an original singer with a theatrical style. And his willingness to perform ONLY Queen songs: Both Queen and non Queen fans are familiar with Queen music. On the other hand, Adam's songs are familiar only to Adam fans. Its a clever move: Show your talent to people who dont know you through songs they already know. It's a long term deal which has been used by huge bands like Deep Purple when they were trying to get exposure. Of course this is a little bit different, but the intention is the same: Play songs everybody knows, show what you can do and in time people will listen your own songs. Many people will like the original songs and out of the blue you have fans that would be almost impossible to have. In my book, that's a lot better way to gain fans for your own original songs that pretending to be Freddie (and Pavarotti in this song) |

Horrible last comment. Never imagine a fan of Deep Purple saying that.... Like power pop band Redd Kross sang, a cover of a band I don't remeber, is a crazy, crazy world we living... |

Just wanted to add that I too thought Marc Martel's performance was brilliant. Somehow when he was doing Freddie's parts it was almost as if he was 'capturing' him, celebrating him, rather than trying to be him. He still retains himself, a curious balance that works. I don't think the label will follow him. I think there's so much more to Marc Martel and people are beginning to realise it. |

Deep Purple (in their own words) didnt knew how to write catchy songs and they recorded a popular song in order to get sales and exposure. It worked and their cover went to the top 5 and from time to time they still play it 45 years later. As far as I remember they dont play any other song from their first album since 1971. It may sound offensive after all this years, but that's the way they started, they all admit it and there's no shame in admit that there was a time when they didnt knew something... At least not in my point of view... |
