Anyone know what ID3 tags I need for The Solo Collection by Freddie Mercury ten CD discs?
Do I need to use 'Grouping' for a box set?
Also what artwork for album covers of the ten CD disc set?
Think I've figured out
Album Artist tag is 'Freddie Mercury'
Artist tag is 'Freddie Mercury' except for Disc two which is 'Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé'
Album tag is 'The Solo Collection'
Disc tag is as appropriate number - but a shame can't identify disc 1 as Mr Bad Guy, 2 as Barcelona or 3 as The Great Pretender!!! Any advice on how to do this would be good - maybe put 'The Solo Collection' as the grouping, and name each disc a separate Album tag?
All tracks are 'part of compilation'
Artwork could use the same as the single disc set
Just change the ID tag for album number, you select which one is the first one, the second one, etc. In this way it doesnt matter how you have organized your music, as soon as you add the files to iTunes, or any other player, it will recognize the album order.
If you dont know which editor can help you with that, I have been using mp3 tag creator for a lot of years, is free, doesnt have ads or that shit. link
The tracks are already in iTunes, that is what I'm using to edit the tags.
Unless I'm using the wrong sources or iTunes is not checking gracenote at all, then I'm assuming iTunes checks with Gracenote and is coming back with wrong tags for The Solo Collection e.g. tracks on Disc 4 and Disc 7 have abbreviated titles and no track numbers.
It also uses Box 1, Box 2 etc as album name,
There is no tag for 'Album number'. There is only 'Album' or 'Disc number'.
I would be prepared to give musicbrainz a go if I could figure out how to use it but I've tagged it myself now. Like I say maybe the original mp3 had the wrong tags but if someone else could confirm their copy of The Solo Collection automatically tags correctly with iTunes/Gracenote then that would be great.
