link Committee seeks help licensing unseen pro footage for a new Dutch TV documentary on rock band Queen Dear friends and fans in the Queen community, As some might know we are making a new TV documentary of Queen for broadcast in the Netherlands. The documentary is already proceeding well. It is based on Queen's success in the Netherlands, and will be broadcasted nationwide in November. We have found a lot of interesting material, and great stories already, but we need your help! We are operating on a limited yet significant budget with some external sponsor assistance, most of which will be going to cover production and studio expenses, and we want to purchase licensing rights for archive pro-shot footage from various concerts and interviews from local television stations as listed below: 1974 TV performance 1977 Live footage from Leiden 1977 Interview 1978 Live footage both nights in Rotterdam 1979 Soundcheck, interview, live footage 1979 Award presentation in December 1982 Award presentation footage 1984 **AN UNSEEN AND UNIQUE DUTCH INTERVIEW with all members** 1986 Live footage from Leiden 1986 Interview 1990 Interviews 1992 Interviews And some great extra surprises: 2002 Amsterdam (Queen's Day surprise show) 2005 Pro shot 5 songs and interview with BM (the infamous 'angry' interview) and RT 2010 The WWRY musical premiere 2011 Brian May at the Eddy Chrisitani Awards However, due to various licensing costs we cannot afford this all within our available budget, and we want to offer the chance for YOU out there to help us make acquiring as much footage for broadcasting possible. We have partial funding, but not nearly enough to fund the list above, with focus on giving priority to pre-1991 material. You will not be only doing an enormous favour for us, but also for many Queen fans out there who have never seen much of this previously unseen footage before! We have set a minimum goal of 4500€, but the more we can raise beyond that, the more everyone will benefit. Let's make this a reality! With thanks from us to you, Sikke van der Veen Kroon Media Beheer BV (production company) |

This campaign will close on November 01, 2014 (11:59pm PT). On behalf of Sikke, any help from you guys here and elsewhere would be seriously appreciated :) Even if you can't afford to contribute a donation, just helping to spread the word would help go a long way! |
TRS-Romania 18.09.2014 08:51 |
@sikke You are being paid to produce a (new) Queen documentary to be broadcasted in the Netherlands right? Can we just assume that you are not very good at negotiating a good business deal or forecasting certain costs which can stay within budget (INCLUDING purchasing licensing rights), or am I overlooking something? |
inu-liger 18.09.2014 08:57 |
Don't jump to conclusions, OK? Let's just put it this way: Sikke doesn't set the price for the licenses. The material is owned by different television stations that set their own rates. I've seen some numbers, and trust me they are not cheap! |

by the end of the month..im donating...sikke is a great guy..and his project is great! hope it will come with some english subs:)) |

Can we just assume that you are not very good at negotiating a good business deal or forecasting certain costs which can stay within budget (INCLUDING purchasing licensing rights), or am I overlooking something? To answer this my financial loss would be equal to a average yearly income in my country. Unless I cannot sell this format 4 times. I have the money , my partner has the contacts, we have help even from Montreux and London, but still this is a game about money. So a good american bloke to the aid, mr. Guilbault told me about fund raising. I never it would, could work for these kind of productions. In the end we are out of funds : it is up to the Queen community whatever they want to see on this format. We made a deal with Universal, but the terms are that we need to broadcast it at 23-11 this has a lot to do with the thingies which are coming up. If these there wouldn;t be anything going this year we would have failed big time. And we sold it for 1 broadcast already to a nationwide channel in the Netherlands. So if we want to use extra unseen and exciting footage this is all up to the fan community. I am not being paid, I invest money , same as the other parties involved. When it will be broadcasted 3-4 times I will get my money back. This is not a commercial release. It will cost me money, all of us, calculated this finacial loss. So this is a donotian from me to Queenfans. Though we found some new and exciting thing and it is up to you (the fan community) to make this happen. If we succeed I will upload all of my rare stuff , audio to this website. You can see part of my collection at my FB page! This is a deal ! I am a bussiness man , and I am eager to make money of everything I thouch. But this will cost me money, if we succeed I will upload all my rarities I own. |

I'm struggling how to see this as anything but an official documentary - you have a deal with Universal and it it being broadcast on national tv - but you didn't find out the cost of licensing the material before negotiating the deals with Universal, the broadcasters etc?? I wish you luck and hope to see it myself, but it sounds like a strange way to have approached it. |

And to re-broadcast it , the rightfull owner (so either RTL4, Veronica, Avro , Tros...etc.)can decide on any price they want. Bumping this again for anyone who may have not seen this yet, or for anyone who has considered donating but has not done so yet. We've raised €360 so far out of our goal of €4500, with 19 days left to go. 16 donations have been made so far from a wide variety of countries ranging from Canada to Japan, so the interest is definitely out there! :) There is an exciting bonus offer at hand as described in the first update! Sikke has offered to upload all of the reels in his personal collection to Queenzone if the goal is met :D |

The projekt cant just be of lower quality cause of the lack of 4000. Thats just above a normal monthly salary... Even i can get a loan like that in a lokal shop. |
boffy 17.10.2014 02:40 |
Yes, hardly an "average yearly income". |
The Real Wizard 17.10.2014 09:29 |
I think what he's suggesting is that he actually invested more than 4,500 into the project to begin with.. |
inu-liger 17.10.2014 17:17 |
Indeed, a lot of money had already gone into production costs, with studio work involved as proven in Sikke's recent Facebook photos. Studios alone are not cheap, unless you own your own (which few people do on an independent basis that are capable of this level of professional production quality). And he and his fellow production committee members already invested in some footage, mostly smaller bits since as has been stated numerous times already both here and elsewhere, procuring the much longer reels of footage (eg. concerts) is the really expensive part. |
people on streets 18.10.2014 11:39 |
Again, my question remains: Can you be more specific on what songs and how much of each show was filmed? And more important: how much of each show will be in the documentary? All the available footage or just snippets? Is it really that difficult to answer? Reminds me of Greg Brooks.... |

Well this campaign has now come to a close, we'd like to thank everyone who contributed to the final sum of €375 EUR. Although far short of our goal, nonetheless as we've said before this money will be invested wisely to the best extent possible. That being said, we now have the trailer for the documentary up on YouTube! Side note: Yes, we realize the "Ahoy 1983" caption is a mistake. The people in charge of putting the trailer together had not been able to reach Sikke in time... Once again, thanks to everyone who contributed, and to those who helped spread the word through social media, as well as Jen at brianmay.com for the promotional boost. The documentary, now called "Queen Forever in Nederland," will be broadcast on Nov. 23rd on 192 TV - link |

Sure if you will pay€ 85,000 for the online streaming then that will be appropriate, good luck with the funding ... The thing I asked for was unlocking the 3 Leiden 86 ampex video's. But no-one seems to be interested in those. . So we even don;t got access to those. There was no deal or funding about captions in any language. |

wondering how much an ampex video contains... as for the quality, thsi is what Wiki writes: In 1983, Ampex introduced the DCRS digital cassette recorder, offering compact cassette storage with the equivalent of 16 digital or 8 DDR instrumentation reels on one cassette. Also, Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) data decoding technology has its first use in Ampex's DCRsi™ recorders. This technology is now commonly used in high performance computer disk drives and other high density magnetic data storage devices. In 1982, Ampex introduced DST (high-performance computer mass storage products able to store half the Library of Congress in 21 square feet (2.0 m2) of floor space) and DCT, the first digital component post production system using image compression technology to produce high quality images. In 1985, Ampex introduced the DIS™ 120i and DIS™ 160i dual port, data/instrumentation recorders. These made it possible for the first time to capture real time instrumentation data and then utilize the same recorder to process the data in a computer environment through its second port using SCSI-2 protocol. I always liked those indoor european concerts best. Leiden went nuts on all nights. Would be fantastic to have more then One Vision. |
