You don't get it, do you? One Vision is a song about a brilliant future, with humanity working togheter, no wars, peace... in such a wonderful world there will be plenty of food, and the fried chicken is very yummy. The fried chicken is just a consequence of the utopian world of One Vision, so the lyrics are far from out of place at the end of the song.
I brought it up once. There are two ways about it
1) it's a remnant from the jokey "magic years" clip,
"One dump. One turd. Two tits, John Deacon"..."One shrimp one clam one frog one chicken"
Or
2) it's a racist disparaging remark about American Black people.... in a song that WAS initially about SNCC member and "civil rights leader" Martin Luther King Jr.
So. ..
A case of arrogance?
Who knows.
You could also spin it like the Neo Nazi group LAIBACH did and turn the entire song into an anthem for dictatorship
What is the world coming to, when you can't actually mention the likes of "Fried Chicken & Water Melon" in the fear of offending someone. It's the politically correct brigade, making mountains out of molehills.
Well. Nobody really cares. Particularly in the USA as the track gets virtually zero recognition over here despite being in a film with Lou Gossett Jr.
Also factor in that it's 29 years old.... it's getting old and it's tits are starting to sag (further; in a bad way)
That said. ... I don't find any "darkness" in it.
I read the band liked the Fried Chicken, the food, and they added that line as a private joke.
think about it, after a long day in the studio you must be very hungry, the moment the delivery boy enters with the fried chicken to eat, must be as blissfuly as the world peace.
