Something under appreciated about the Rainbow release is the fact that they didn't try to slap some 'clever' title on there. There's nothing innately wrong with creatively titling a concert release, but I'd gladly take the plain 'Live at the Rainbow '74' over something like 'Hungarian Rhapsody'. |

Pretty plain and simple title really. But it gets the job done! :D |

Good point - with regard to artwork, title, cover, etc....I think the intention with this release is to try to reproduce what would have been issued when they were originally planning to release it in 1975. Works for me! |

I quite like the artwork. It's still only Freddie, but I guess we just have to accept that that's how they're doing it. Otherwise, it's very straightforward and effective. |

I like the title (and the artwork). |

I've never understood the really harsh criticism Livekillers gets. Okay, it's edited together but it's representative of a tour rather than any one show. It's overdubbed in places, but I can live with that. The sound is maybe a bit muddy in places but for me, in comparison with other official live releases, it has the definitive versions of We Will Rock You (fast), Love of My Life, Keep Yourself Alive and Brighton Rock, as well as great versions of Spread Your Wings, Now I'm Here, Death On Two Legs, and 39. It needs to be remastered and remixed, with the missing tour tracks included (It's Late, If You Can't Beat Them, Somebody to Love & Fat Bottomed Girls). "On Fire: Live At The Bowl" seems to me to be much more of a failed attempt to come up with a creative title. Still, I think that Queen's live releases are fairly decently named. "Rock Montreal", "At Wembley Stadium". That is a lot better than pretentious crap like "Come Hell or High Water" for Deep Purple. |

I appreciate that title a lot more with that knowledge - much more clever than just a rewording of their most famous song to fit the nation where they were playing. |

Best Cover Art of a live release: Live Magic 2nd place: Live Killers Worst Cover Art: Hungarian Rhapsody 2nd place: Live At The Rainbow Both cause puts only Freddie in cover, forget that Queen is a four member band |

Rhap., not to mention the title. Put me off buying it in split seconds. The cover of Rainbow is nothing special, but I'm glad they tried at least to keep it in line with the first two albums. The content seems fine and Blu-Ray may shine indeed. |

On the subject of "Live Killers" i am disappointed that a Dvd never surfaced from the concerts. Somewhere in Queen land there will be loads of footage from Queen's 1979 tours! |

The most worthwhile release since Rock Montreal in 2007. The March concert is the sound of Queen raw and on fire. Fantastic. I thought it would be all just hype as I am disappointed again and again with Queen+ and all that malarkey. Live at the Rainbow 2 CD set is awesome and no fan should miss it. I even treated myself to the 4LP box and will have to get the DVD now too! Queen, no band comes near!? There is an energetic urgency to the music. The sound is great and the band dynamics superb. This was a band still slugging away before Bo Rap fame made them world superstars. This is a great release and it makes me very excited about Queen again! A lavish 'Live Killers' now next and we're laughing! |

Is there a link to a fuller account or story of Queen's original intent to release Rainbow in 1975? |

^ I'd be interested in that too, I'd never heard anything of it until recently. |

Well they worked on it in '74, but it was scrapped in favour of working on a new album (SHA), so it would either have been released late '74 or in '75. |

Well i am so relieved that we have finally got out first Queen gig of the 1970s at long last, because they have always stuck to 80s concerts on dvd. Hopefully to follow "Earls Court" "Hammersmith 1975" and the most difficult to get out of Queen productions "Hyde Park 76" fingers crossed! |
drmurph 07.09.2014 15:22 |
The Queen Archivist mentioned (somewhere) on Queenonline that these concerts are not in a state to make individual releases but who knows, if the Rainbow release does well maybe they could put out a set with Hammy 75 & Hyde Park 76 together or something similar. We can but dream... |

They had the decency not to slap a witty pun on the title true. Pity they didn't have the decency not to slap some auto tune on Freddie's vocals. Just a minor annoyance. |

BelfastQueenFan wrote: They had the decency not to slap a witty pun on the title true. Pity they didn't have the decency not to slap some auto tune on Freddie's vocals. Just a minor annoyance.Yup, but we're stuck with it. The November concert is almost entirely free of it, at least :) |

drmurph wrote: The Queen Archivist mentioned (somewhere) on Queenonline that these concerts are not in a state to make individual releases ...This is always the most annoying aspect for me - yes, we'd love all those 70s gigs to be in full HD and have master tape audio from which to remix, but if they haven't got that then just give us what you have rather than nothing at all. An example is Hammersmith 79; they have the full visual, but are apparently missing the multi track audio so won't do anything with it cos they can't remix it and add overdubs etc. However, they DO have a perfectly decent stereo mix, so this could easily be worked on and released with a restored picture. Look at stuff like The Who at Kilburn or Texas 75, or the Led Zep archive live stuff - they are not scared to say 'it was the 70s so we don't have 24 track master audio tapes, but here ya go'. Queen really should see the value in releasing this vintage stuff, and no-one is going to slag them off because there's a cracked vocal, a bum guitar note, or it's in stereo (or even mono) rather than 5.1. |
