Lead singer of Queen Extravangaza @marcmartel is releasing first solo album! Hear the first single 'Paradise' here - link |
Penetration_Guru 03.09.2014 15:42 |
I've not heard much of either, but prefer his voice to Lambert's |
ARMANDO MARTINEZ 03.09.2014 22:36 |
cool song! |
tomchristie22 04.09.2014 01:15 |
Sounds pretty great. I like his tone |

Very good voice, but not a showman, which is why Lambert is fronting Queen ! |

Holly2003 05.09.2014 01:49 |
That may be part of it but just as important is the fact that Lambert is better known than Martel and has a bigger fanbase, This ensures more publicity, shows are better attended etc. IMO Martel is a better singer than Lambert, and a much better fit for the musical side of things. |
andyb1968 05.09.2014 08:36 |
The snippets I've heard sound good, deffo a Queen feel to it, it may end up a better listen than ''Queen Forever'' ! |
brunogorski 05.09.2014 09:53 |
link I really liked this one too. He posted it after Robin Williams died. Marc's voice is awesome! By the way, watching the last QE performances, I can tell that he's getting really better on the showman thing. Helsinki gig was awesome (that's what I can tell from the YT videos, since I wasn't there :/ ) |
rubens 05.09.2014 10:56 |
What a awesome song! Oh if only Brian and Roger record some tracks with this guy...he maneged to sound more like Queen than anything the two have been doing since the last decade. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 05.09.2014 11:33 |
Well, Lambert is not a good frontman also and... Queen died with Freddie and John left. The only oportunity, was with George Michael, but Roger not wanted... |
andyb1968 05.09.2014 13:29 |
George Michael would have been a disaster ! He could not have coped with the heavy side of Queen's catalogue . |
john bodega 05.09.2014 13:44 |
"Very good voice, but not a showman" I really don't get how blowing more money on one's wardrobe than the other guys in the band and bleating C-grade banter at everyone makes one a showman to the point where it would supersede any musical concerns. It's firmly in the 'shoot, I guess we'll never know!' bucket now, but it would've made for better music if they'd had Martel along for the tour. Would it have sold? Probably not. I'll leave that line of thinking to people like Simon Cowell, it doesn't interest me. |
john bodega 05.09.2014 13:46 |
"George Michael would have been a disaster" The only reason people lost their shit over George Michael's performance was because they expected him to come out and WHAM it up, and all he did was a respectful, solid performance of the song. I think we can all admit now that it's just 20 years of pleasant surprise talking, whenever someone floats the idea of Q+GM. |
M-train 05.09.2014 16:10 |
Damned, I just played this, and my wife walked in, and asked if it was a song off the new Queen album.........This guy's future looks promising. I've always wondered how someone who was a very good tribute artist would do if they made NEW songs in the same style as the band they were emulating. I guess we will see. |
M-train 05.09.2014 16:15 |
Just to say, nobody will replace our Freddie, as he was truly one of a kind, but for the rest of us here on earth I don't think Marc can be beat especially if he puts out more new songs with a Queen/Freddie flare. This new song also reminds me of the raw hard rocking sound of a young, 70's era Queen, not the pop sound they later explored. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 05.09.2014 19:17 |
If Adam Lambert can sing heavy songs, why not George Michael... My dream would be in the 90's a tour with George Michael and Dio as guest singers. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 05.09.2014 19:22 |
And don't forget about 39', it was not a gospel song, and he did a brilliant performance. Even Freddie liked his duet with Aretha Franklin and liked his solo stuff. That dates. |

Well, those songs were pretty damn good. I'm sold! |
Another Roger (re) 06.09.2014 15:29 |
I had another listen to this song. It's awsome. Better than anything I have heard from Martel before. Is it still the Queen Extravaganza band playing backing for him? |
SweetCaroline 07.09.2014 19:09 |
I wonder why no one is saying that Marc sounds like a girl on the high notes of his new song "Paradise." |

It was posted here that I read, Brian, and Roger do NOT want anyone who sounds or looks anywhere near close to Freddie.........but, there again Brian said there was nothing left in the vaults for making a new album so........ |

SweetCaroline wrote:Marc Martel suits Queen's music just perfect. I have never experienced a vocalist that can give me the Queen feeling before Marc came along. Adam Lambert means nothing to me. It is sad to say it but for the first time ever I dont care about a Queen tour with Brian and Roger. The reason Lambert was chosen is that he sells tickets in America. Martel is not a teenage idol and would not have that effect. I dont care about ticket-sales really. I just want the best possible quality, and thats what we would have got with Martel.noorie wrote: I wish Brian and Roger had taken him along for the tour....If you think Marc could match or do better than this performance, then, yes, maybe if there is another leg of the tour in the future, Brian and Roger should consider taking him along instead of Adam: |

Wow, Adam would be shocked to find out that he is a teenage idol in America and probably thrilled to hear it. If he were a teenage idol in America as you seem to think, his music would be played on the radio and he would be performing on award shows like the current teenage idols, Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus! Your British singer, Sam Smith, is the guy burning up the charts in America right now! Maybe Marc's new single and new album will get him the fame he doesn't have right now? I just looked for a youtube of Marc singing WWTLF and couldn't find one. At the QE show I went to in 2012, it was Jennifer Espinoza who sang that song along with "You're My Best Friend." |

I think Marc really needs to capitalize on his resemblance to FM vocally as well as visually. I can understand Marc wanting to be himself, but if he will stick to trying to recreate a true Queen vib like in the song "Paradise" there is no telling where he will end up. The music industry is crying for someone to rise up, and revive Rock n Roll. Maybe this guy is the one to do it. |
Jimmy Dean 19.09.2014 22:22 |
Not sure he really sounds like himself. This has Muse written all over it. |

I WOULD go see QE in the UK if i could!!! Martel and Lambert shouldn't even be in the same sentence....worlds apart. Martel has talent AL does not possess ...and go ahead, correct me...its MY opinion. I can certainly hear and see. I'm not the only one annoyed by Lambert and the decision to take him on tour instead of Martel. The world loves Queen and will pay to see them no matter who's fronting the band. Otherwise, I doubt Lambert will make any other mark on the world. I do think Martel gains far more respect. |

It's probably tricky for Brian and Roger......Martel could and would do absolute credit to the Queen catalogue, and would actually sound very similar to Freddie in places - this is something a lot of people would want to hear in order to, as far as possible, accurately reproduce the music they know and love. It must b tempting to have engaged him for a full set of dates. Equally, if they went for Martel, as a result of him being so 'Freddie-esque', they would invariably be slated by half the fans and a lot of the music press/general public as trying to 'replicate' Freddie and be accused becoming a tribute band to themselves. Whilst going out in ANY form and playing the 'hits' will lead to some of those accusations anyway, a way to try to keep them to a minimum is to perform with a vocalist that is able to cope with the catalogue but is different enough to avoid too many calls of that ilk. They tried this with Paul Rodgers, and to my mind whislt a brave move, it veered TOO far away from sounding like Queen, and the way Rodgers sang a lot of the tracks took away from their intrinsic magic. So now they have moved to Adam Lambert, and probably found the right place based on the 'not copying Freddie but singing the songs with the right melody and range' approach. Sadly there isnt a right or wrong answer, and ultimately they will do what they think they should (or possibly what they think other people think they should?!?) |

Brain-washed Glambert?? Funny..... You know, I was actually against the whole idea of the Q&AL thing when I first heard of it...but then I decided to give him a chance....I heard a few of the concerts, went to a show last year, even started checking out some of his solo stuff......I think he's a hell of a singer, perfect man for the job.............actually I wish there was going to be a Q&AL studio album, but who knows about that......... If you think that sounds like a retarded brainwashed Glambert, well, I guess there's nothing I can do about that! |

Like I mentioned before, I didn't get to see Queen back when Freddie was alive, and for reasons discussed on this forum Queen didn't tour America much in the 80's [the age for which I could have actually driven to see the concert]. I would say there are many, many people like me who love Queen, but never got to see them for one reason, or another. Marc captures the essence of Freddie pretty good, both visually, and vocally. I would go to see Queen with Marc in a second even if it meant driving several hours to get to a near show. I think the illusion of the old Queen would be pretty damned good. I can also say that most reasonable people know Marc isn't, nor ever will be Freddie as Freddie was one of a kind, Also, I don't see Marc singing with Queen on tour as being a dishonor to Fred's memory at all. |

I think one of the reasons they don't play with Marc is that he sounds too much like Freddie to be comfortable with. I wouldn't want to play everyday with a person who remind me of my dead friend. Publicwise and personal wise it's not wise. Of course for us fans it is a different point of view. We'll chase after whatever illusion of Freddie. |
