Adam Lambert and Queen are embarking on their tour across the world and fans are eagerly awaiting the news of a visit to Europe, which has been hinted at previously. While the North American leg has now finished, the group are preparing for a handful of shows including Korea before heading down under to Australia and New Zealand. Taking on the role of frontman for Queen – in the absence of the late Freddie Mercury is American powerhouse Adam Lambert who has always said it’s an honour to do so. In a new interview with the New Zealand Sunday Star Times, Adam has explained that stepping into the shoes of Freddie Mercury has given him an insight into what kind of performer he can be. Lambert explained that the first few times he performed with the band he was “extremely apprehensive” because he found their legacy so intimidating. “Freddie Mercury was such an iconic vocalist, a once in a lifetime star, and their songs are fabulous.” he added. Commenting on Brian May and Roger Taylor he explained that they made him “feel comfortable” and confessed that “it’s making me a better live performer”, but has him looking to the future. Talking about comparisons between him and Mercury he explained that they’re “both big, loud singers” but he believes it’s “important” to put his own stamp on the songs but without straying from the original version. During the same interview Adam spoke about what he appreciates from a live performer and revealed that he loves other artists who bring melodrama to what they do. “Sometimes the idea of camp confuses people in today’s media. They don’t always get the fact that melodrama can be fabulously entertaining.” he explained. He added that he loves performers who go down that road, and have some conviction. Freddie was perfect at that, but some bands these days seem to have lost that. Lambert added that “Queen helped create the environment” for “the costume changes, the dancers, the elaborate themed staging” because that’s what “modern pop music is about”. |

Just the ramblings of a crazy old man who worked with Freddie Mercury and surely doesn't recognize talent Brian starts talking around 45.0 |

Other things Brian has said: "Brian bigged me up for my last single and said I should win an Ivor Novello for lyrics. So I got his email and contacted him. It was a coincidence that track was called 'Rockstar'. He told me, 'You are a very different artist and unique, so carry on doing what you're doing. There's nobody else challenging you'." On Dappy “...now acknowledged as a phenomenon, equally at home in Musical Theatre and Rock. I was convinced from the moment we worked together on We Will Rock You nine years ago, that she was destined to be a worldwide star. The challenge was to develop songs and arrangements to allow that amazing voice to reach its true potential.” On Kerry Ellis ".. the recently met up with Queen legend Brian May and, for some odd reason, the guitarist compared the pop star to the late, great Freddie Mercury. Brian must not be taking his pills. I walked in and there was Katy Perry and a hot young band tearing it up to an audience who responded to every note, and seldom sat down. No clicks, no backing tracks, no mime show... no huge production... no pretence. Just a really great young singer and artist, pouring her heart out. Brian went on to say that “the best thing of all is her command of mood” and that she’s a true entertainer." On Katy Perry "It was incredible to work with the three of them, and hear the song come to life in a new way. Freddie would definitely have enjoyed it." On the Pepsi commercial with Pink, Beyonce and Britney Spears Definitely not a crazy man. Judging by the comments above, not exactly a great judge of talent, just very gracious in praise of the people he works with, and that does not diminish what the thinks of Adam, just stating the fact that Kerry Ellis is his female Adam and she's a lovely singer who doesn't have rock chops either. He can sell it, you're buying as lots of others are, lots of others aren't. |

And it's not that I'm "buying it." Brian not telling me anything that I didn't already know ;). |

Considering Brian's self proclaimed love for Katy Perry, I was surprised to hear him make a couple of derogatory or mocking comments during the Philly show. Katy played Montreal's Centre Bell the night after Queen did, right before Queen's show in Philadelphia. I was in those three shows. Do you think Brian attended that gig or something? The following night he was mentioning her on his show mocking the production, the dancers, etc. Nobody in Philly knew what he was talking about as nobody knew (or cared) Katy had been in Montreal the night before. It was a bit weird. |

"Brian went on to say that “the best thing of all is her massive tits ." On Katy Perry Sorry - I couldn't help notice they'd got the quote wrong so have just corrected it for you! ;-) |

Well, what can we expect from a singer who only knows the greatest hits. If he was so fan of Queen, he will know every song. He said in an interview he had to listen some songs he never heard to rehersals... And about Brian, what's about Queen must be more hard rock in the 80's, the metal guy? Is the same person who want to be on the focus talking about Lady Gaga as singer for Queen some years ago, or singing now with Adam Lambert. I don't have problems with that, but under his name, not Queen. |

I guess I didnt know you have to have a certain kind of voice to sing rock........ |
Apocalipsis_Darko 10.08.2014 16:47 |
Is not the voice, is being a frontman. George Michael have it, Prince have it, Ian Astbury have it....no matter if it's rock or other kind of music. Five or the Pepsi advert were garbage. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 10.08.2014 16:56 |
And to be honest, I don't know anything about Kerry Ellis, so I exclude her, and because of her style is not to be a frontman, is other style. I mean, Joni Mitchell or Laura Nyro did a kind of music not to be act on stage like a frontwoman. Tina Turner with the Ikes was a brilliant frontwoman, and later also. Or Janis Joplin, but because of her style of music was more agressive, more soul, old R&B, or rock. |

Lambert is a good karaoke singer and he's done well to land a starring role alongside Brian and Roger in their tribute band to themselves. |

Katy Perry is unfortunately mixing with the wrong crowd these days. Anyone see her BIZARRO livestream? It was just her crying in the Big Brother house while a buncha retards read out poems about feminism, etc. etc. She's gotta get back to being fun, sexy, latex Katy Perry - and FAST. |

Have you heard her trying to sing Don't Stop Me Now? Look how many down votes this got too. Understandably. Some of the comments are funny too. link |
