Usually when there is a "best" and "worst" queen song list, this song always seems to make the "worst" list (and of course then Innuendo album is seen as the best thing ever). I have to say that decision, in my opinion, surprises me - a lot. Rain Must Fall is in the category of Queen songs that isn't commercial (but so is You Take My Breath Away) The song is vocally an excellent performance, some good phrasing and catchy feel good song. The only thing that might be a bit off is Roger's drumming. But how it makes it into "worst" category surprises me. I'd say the same with "My Baby Does Me", again it fits a certain mood and is quite enjoyable, and even Deliliah, the first two lines make up for the rest of the song. If I were to pick a "worst" song I'd say maybe…something like "Misfire", "Who Needs You" and maybe one or two on "A Kind of Magic" - some of them were just pointless songs. Anyway just my opinion but I have to stick up for Rain Must Fall! |

I love it too, think Freddie's vocal is wonderful. However, I must admit that it's only been in the last few years that it's grown on me. |

Rain Must Fall, Who Need You and My Baby Does Me are songs that I loved since the first time I heard them, but it could be just the fact that all those 3 songs have a latin kind of feeling that Im used to (since I was born in Mexico) so I understand if someone doesnt like them. I always listen RMF, lol, its one of my favorite songs ever. |

I love Rain Must Fall... My baby does me - not so much. Delilah, really not a favourite. But it is a very whimsical Freddie track. The 'meows' always make me laugh! |

every now again I'm utterly flabbergasted when a given song attracts heavy criticism, usually because, I've been enjoying said song for decades and presumed it was palatable to yer average Queen fan. Don't lose your head, Delilah, She makes me, etc etc, This propensity makes me listen anew, just as I do when someone here is gushing, on a particular song or album, it usually results in my liking of the song being reinforced and incredulity at the negative opinions. But, I guess the Queen community is a rich, unsanatised, tapestry, that's what probably makes it interesting. Long live Don't lose your head, she makes me and Delilah ! |

I love Rain Must Fall. Just a great feel-good song and so much fun. Freddie's sounds like he's having so much fun with it. And I just love Brian's "surprise" second solo at the end of the song! |
Saint Jiub 02.08.2014 11:33 |
I love the bass and percussion. Too bad Freddie made Roger take most of it out to leave room for vocals (per Roger in an interview with the entire band) |

Rain Must Fall = Scout camp in Torquay 1989. Beautiful memories. MBDM not so much. i remember once being on a bus around the same time and this little boy wanted to know what i was listening too (obviously a cassette walkman was big news in Southampton in those days). His dad asked me if i could let him listen. It was Who Needs You and ive never been so embarrassed. They both looked at me like i was some fruit who liked Carmen Miranda and Del Monte. |

There is beauty in every Queen song, and best/worst changes with mood. |

(Apart from Body Language which is a given) Mine would be Bicycle Race. |
ITSM 05.08.2014 21:04 |
@Mooghead: Bicycle Race is a good choise. I also think that one, and I Want to Break Free ... and We Are the Champions - can't sit alone with headphones on a bus and really listen to that one...? By the way, I think the worst song is Coming Soon. |

Not a good introduction to their music! And I quite like Body Language! Don't know why everybody is always so down on it. |
tcc 05.08.2014 23:21 |
Delilah, Body Language are well known songs which people criticize. I have not heard people criticize My Baby Does Me. To me this song seems to be a strained effort. |

ITSM wrote: By the way, I think the worst song is Coming Soon.To me their worst songs are: Loser in the End. Calling all Girls. LITE just dont belong to Queen II, the lyrics are awful and the music is not on the same level as the other songs. CAG, well, I dont have much to say, except that I hate it, lol |

The Real Wizard wrote: The live version of CAG absolutely rocks. link .That always struck me as the one song on Hot Space that perfectly illustrated how it could've been a waaay better album if they hadn't opted for the 'fashionable' shitty production. The live version really does it justice! BTW: try not to end posts with a link, but add a single character after the link. Otherwise, quotes get messed up. |

I love the underrated stuff. Rain Must Fall-Really catchy, I just always liked listening to it there is something light and loveable about it, the rhythm and words and the way Freddie sings it. Calling All Girls- Love the bass and guitar, it's just a song you want to dance to. |
Oscar J 06.08.2014 10:31 |
I always considered Rain Must Fall and My Baby Does Me uninspired fillers. Can't for the life of me understand why Hang On In There didn't make it onto the album instead. Still, there's no album with as many pointless fillers as AKOM. Are there two good songs on there? Maybe three? Hell, it's worse than Hot Space, at least most of the songs on that album have some thought behind them and sounded good live. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 06.08.2014 10:58 |
Hot Space is the best record of the universe! |

Coming Soon is still one of my all time favourite Queen songs. Loved it when I first got The Game back in the mid 80s. Worst? Probably most of MIH, One Year Of Love and My Baby Does Me although I have recently re-evaluated The Miracle and absolutely love it. |
malicedoom 06.08.2014 13:37 |
I don't quite get the dislike for AKOM. One Vision, A Kind Of Magic, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, Friends Will Be Friends, Who Wants To Live Forever, Princes Of The Universe. I think those are all great songs. So... ??? I guess I'm in the minority here. |
Oscar J 06.08.2014 16:55 |
Here's what I think. One Vision is a good song, so is WWTLF. Princes Of The Universe is alright as well... The thing I don't like with the rest of the songs is that they sound so damn lazy. Programmed drums, a very plastic production (hear the backing track at 5:00 here: link ) and almost no instrumental finesse whatsoever. The songwriting is either extremely commercial and mainstream (Friends Will Be Friends) or just plain mediocre. Yet it might still have worked for me, if it weren't for the coincidence that Freddie Mercury's vocals are (IMO) at their all time studio low; often sounding hoarse and strained. Actually I thought I was in a minority about this! |

I guess I'm in the minority here.I think one example sums up the reason for my incomplete enjoyment of AKOM, and that's the title track: it's a great song, indeed. But when the full original version was put on the Wembley DVD, that version sounded so much greater. One Vision is just awesome, but the rest of AKOM consists of mostly pretty great songs butchered in production. And there're a few not-quites. One Year Of Love, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure and Don't Lose Your Head aren't top notch, IMHO, They could've been decent songs, but now they're corny (OYOL/PISCTP) or downright awful (DLYH) thanks to the production. |

I like Rain Must Fall - has anyone that has heard John's 'No Turning Back' track with The immortals noticed that the percussion loops on that track are very, very similar to 'Rain Must Fall'?? |
Martin Packer 08.08.2014 05:46 |
12" version of AKOM single was VERY nice - because there was more twiddly-dee :-) guitar. Despite it being a Roger song messed around with by "that rotter Freddie" :-) the whole point to me is the guitar. |
malicedoom 08.08.2014 07:44 |
I also like Rain Must Fall. Quite a bit actually. Also a fan of My Baby Does Me. Love to hear Freddie just generally screwing around and having a good time. "Be cool now...", etc. |
dysan 09.08.2014 06:36 |
I think we agree the main culprits are One Year Of Love, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure and Don't Lose Your Head. That's a 3rd of the album. WWTLF drags and kills the star of side 2 although obviously it is a super torch song. The album flow is stodgy - and that cover! Oh Jeeeeez. Would've preferred A Dozen Red Roses on there as I loved that when I got the AKOM single, |

The guitar in RMF is sublime and and great example of BHM making an okay song into a decent track. |
