I dare to call this one a restoration instead of a simple clean-up as I usually do. Why is that? Here you will see. Before you download the video please watch this (on youtube below) or download here a sample so I can avoid making screenshots (video shows it better anyway) - https://mega.co.nz/#!WN020AQS!4ArhzvP7J7DB1hnZYkFIkjA2JQ6iZ2lwg8lnNgZhoHQ * Some time ago on some other thread I uploaded a compare sample of this already but it is outdated as it looks much worse than it does at the end * Something to note - 1) Why not a DVD? - I hate the outdated MPEG-2 compression which makes you to render stuff with about 9000 bitrate and it still looks worse than encoded with H.264 2500-3500 bitrate. So there's waste of bandwidth for me. Also I don't want to do authoring and make menus because once I do I want to make it look cool and interactive sort of with After Effects animation. That takes way too much time. 2) Why 640x480? - well, it's smaller file size that way and there is no considerable detail or pixels lost because as we know the source is shitty VHS which originally is even smaller resolution than 640x480. If there's anything you want to know feel free to ask :-) All I can say is that it was pain in ass but at the end it turned out rather well in my opinion. https://mega.co.nz/#!jQc1FBbR!mCs9UGbA1GKzQxpYcXoMsmem3Lm1mLiPUTGw7kN2GNg |

No, that's just a hobby :) I like messing around with videos and trying out some new things. - - - As a sidenote, I forgot to mention that I filled in the blank gaps in the audio stream (Under Pressure & Keep Yourself Alive). |

Holy balls of fire, this is probably the best we will ever get, considering how shitty the source is. It looks very similar to the official videos GREAT JOB :D |

Nitroboy wrote: What do you reckon can be done with the 1st night? Nothing much. It looks bad. Perhaps I would be able to do something with it but it wouldn't make it look much better. I'll try out some things though. If there happens a miracle and I do manage to make it look good I will share it. |

Wow! That's amazing! What software did you use to remove the flashing/flickering bright color lines? It looks so "smooth"! Congrats and thanks! |

ARMANDO MARTINEZ wrote: Wow! That's amazing! What software did you use to remove the flashing/flickering bright color lines? It looks so "smooth"! Congrats and thanks! Thanks. Mainly Avisynth + plus After Effects and Virtualdub for a few other specific things :) It's the first time I've used After Effects for video improving and processing instead of VFX (VFX is what this software is originally meant for). Thing with this video was that it has fine luma but messed up chroma (colours). I temporally processed chroma with Avisynth and Virtualdub but that affected luma as well and it didn't look the best at the end. So I thought "if only there was a way I could add chroma from this video onto the greyscale luma video". I found that After Effects can do just that with 'color overlay mode'. Overall this video took many rendering passes (I forgot how many, lol). A couple of passes to fix the chroma flickering which was tricky. Another pass rendering the source video simply in greyscale so that I can get luma. Then I aligned the fixed chroma video with the luma video in After Effects (basically put only colour from one video on a b&w video). And another pass of overall enhancing through Avisynth and Virtualdub and the last pass simple encode with H.264 to MKV which I uploaded on this thread. Hope some of this answers your question regarding softwares :-) |

Thanks for another great video. Maybe it's an idea to create a list, with links, of all the projects you've done so far. Or post them in one topic wich can be updated. |

Thanks for the idea. But I am not sure that would work because I like to write down some info and notes and post comparison pictures. It would be quite a huge thread which I am not sure I would be willing to update from time to time. For me easier it's just to create a new thread for each upload. Your idea could be useful if I decide to make a thread with a list of links to threads of already uploaded videos. Is this what you meant? |

Tremendous work Chief, thank you ^^ And what a great setlist it has (that went to all The Work Tour setlists). I just wish we had a better audio instead of what seemed like from dozen different sources. "Keep Yourself Alive" and "Dragon Attack" are beautiful nonetheless. |
