I chosen to work with 3 different sources to receive complete best sounding version in my opinion: Source 1 is the best sounding version but unfortunately the most incomplete. Source 2 is the most complete recording and sounds very good after some restoration work. Source 3 is the weakest sounding version in my opinion, but it's the only version which features actual unaltered transition between 'Now I'm Here' and 'Love Of My Life'. All sources were speed corrected and EQ-processed to match each other as much as possible. Noise reduction was applied for Source 2 to reduce the hiss of tape throughout the whole recording. Some volume fluctuations in Source 1 were fixed in several songs. Also various small and large crackles were fixed in this one. First half of 'One Vision' intro was not broadcasted as I understand. As this piece doesn't include any live performance from the band, I decided to restore it from another famous show recording. I didn't reduce the hudge amount of noise in the quiet part of the concert as it's impossible not to ruin the recording in the end. So it's there as is. cmi July 2014 |

That's interesting, I wonder how it will compare to my version, thanks! |

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I will definitely listen to this, because it's one of my favorite Magic tour concerts. Thanks again. |

pittrek wrote: That's interesting, I wonder how it will compare to my version, thanks!Soundwise, nothing spectacular. Highs are pushed too much. Not unpleasant, but unnecessary, and by the end quite fatiguing. However, the choice of sources is better. For example, "Under pressure", starts from the distorted source in your version. Here has a clean start. And the compressed sound gives a nice punch to this track. But not all the material reacts well to compression, especially the noisy parts. |

Hmmmm. Perhaps CMI & Pittrek should collaborate and create a new mix? |

cmi wrote:Of course it sounds great, it's YOUR mix... I also prefere the sound of the lp transfer over the cd bootleg, there are so many versions circulating of this recording and we're all using different stereo systems so it's all a question of personal taste! I think you did a good job, your mix sounds good, but not an upgrade at all!aristide1 wrote: Soundwise, nothing spectacular. Highs are pushed too much. MIX is one and only and is from 1986 broadcast... all other things are the restoration/editing/mastering works. Of course there can't be hudge upgrade in terms of sound quality as there were no new sources used. First of all it's an attempt to create COMPLETE recording of the show using best sources (IMO). The only known complete recording of the show is 'Done Under Pressure' from Gypsy Eye, but the quality is not great there. I prefer 'Queen Reigns The World' CD instead of LP so used it for this project. |

cmi wrote: MIX is one and only and is from 1986 broadcast... all other things are the restoration/editing/mastering works.I believe thefallenqueen knows the meanings of these terms, if this is important to you. They are components of PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTION. Not our case. What you like to call mastering is in fact an audio optimization. Remember you started with a 44/16/2ch, and in a real studio this is at the end of the chain. If I adjust a phone recording it is not a mastering. Maybe in an imaginary world, in which the keyboard is a mixing desk, and me and my computer are Aristide Productions. |

aristide1 wrote: Remember you started with a 44/16/2ch, and in a real studio this is at the end of the chain.Using your theory, "A Kind Of Magic" album was never mastered/remastered but only "optimized"... as it was recorded and mixed digitally in 16/44.1. BTW, mixing desk is not a proper mastering tool. Don't be confused by these two different processes. |

The problem with you is not on the technical ground, is on the human one. You chose to totally ignore the other Mannheim merge, and the person behind it. Probably based on the stellar quality of your work, that should struck everyone. The only striking thing until now is your arrogance. |
cmi 27.07.2014 12:00 |
1. With respect to Pittrek and all his works, I have my vision on the sources and all the stuff. His words: "If you think you can do it better, try. I'm serious". 2. Where have you found the presentation of "stellar quality, that should struck everyone" ? 3. Where have you found the arrogance in my posts? All I see is your negative attitude based probably on "total ignorance of the other Mannheim merge" and lack of your knowledge in mixing/mastering processes... There's no need to answer, I hope it was your last post in this thread. |

aristide1 wrote: You chose to totally ignore the other Mannheim merge, and the person behind it. (...).I don't think this is the case. Pittrek did a wonderful job with it, but if other fans are passionate about this, and have other ideas for this project then they should do it too. I'm glad that in the end they share it here in Queenzone for everybody to hear. I don't know how to do this stuff myself, so i really thank everyone who share their works in Queenzone . Thanks again cmi for sharing this. And if you have other similar projects that you did for yourself, please feel free to share it here. It's good to have diferent views on the same projects. |

Although you downloaded, listened, and used his version as a benchmark, and his words as a motivation, as you say. Did you ever thought to say him something appreciative? Or there is nothing to appreciate, everyone with his "vision", and of course yours is a professional one. Not to mention, you have a logo, and he hasn't. I believe this gives an answer to point 3 as well. About your vision, check the picture. It is CMI MUSIC idea of a proper mastering. You need to come up with more than this if you want to be taken seriously. freq |

What do you want to say with these links? Except they validate what I say. On 23 march you said to sirGH you are working, and on 17 may pittrek posted his version. So? You have the honor of being the first to start working, or what? In this case maybe pittrek should thank to you. IN THE SAME TIME YOU WERE WORKING, SOMEONE POSTED HIS VERSION. YOU HAD NO REACTION. You are incapable of offering a little appreciation. That's the main reason you won't get back too much. And the "clever equalization" is as clever as you are. |
