I was just thinking why wasn't Princes of The Universe played at the Magic tour or anywhere else,The songs a Greatest Hit but was missed off GH2 cant understand why it wasn't played as it was also in one of the biggest movies of 1986
It wasn't a hit, it was only released in the US and Australia as a single and I think it didn't exactly set the charts alight. It also wasn't a hit when it was re-released in 2000 in the Netherlands.
Queen played a number of songs live that weren;t hits e.g. SHA & GDML. Friends will be Friends also wasn't a major hit (14 in UK) and yet they broke up WWRY/WatC with it. I believe it was just too difficult to play live: too many complicated vocals, time signature changes, and super-speedy guitar tapping. It would have been a real mess live, unless they changed the format considerably.
and could you imagine them singing it on the Magic Tour?
Here we are, Born to be kings,
We're the princes of the universe
by a band called Queen...talk about transgender issues - there's definitely a whole different talking point there
It is a pretty complicated song, in the sense of the time signature and speed changes, crazy (amazing) vocals, and completely different types of rock all tied up into one 3 minute piece of music.
If they would have ever done it, they wouldn't have sung the intro, I'm sure. But either way, still too complicated to do live, I would think.
I think it comes down to choose some songs from the new album (AKoM). They had to chose the best ones to play live on the Magic Tour, and they already had chosen 4 of them: OV, AKoM, WWtLF and FWBF. That's a lot, and needing to make a priority, they left out the other ones.
What really surprises me about the Magic Tour is that they played a song from every album (not counting 'Flash Gordon'), except 'Jazz'. Even that bit of 'Liar' was played. How would it been if they played FBG? Amazing!
Yeah Fat Bottomed Girls is another that should have been played and at the FM tribute,Always wondered why 39 wasn't played on the Magic tour instead of the covers
