Hey just a checky question for you guys... As with many of you guys that are in the 20 age group for whom this would be the last ever chance to see a band of the 70s Queen live... would it be worth signing onto the queen fan club to get first dibs on tickets (how many of you guys here are signed up on to that) and just how quickly would NZ pop of 4 mill sell out a venue of around 12000?
Hard to say.
The only time Queen played NZ, in 1985, two of the three shows were canceled due to poor ticket sales, and the one show they did play didn't sell out.
But - that was 1985, and it was also a stadium, not an arena.
The fan club thing has gotten mixed reviews over the years. I'd say you should just be at the computer the minute tickets come on sale, and you'll probably be fine.
I was right there when Queen came to NZ in 1985 and more recently, done extensive research through the newspaper archives at the Auckland Library. As far as I can tell there was only ever going to be one NZ concert in 1985. Keep in mind that Queen's popularity at the time was waning somewhat due to the changes in their music and Freddie's image. Some fans might have stayed away due to their recent concerts in South Africa as well. The anti-aparthied movement in NZ was quite strong during the 80s. http://www.aussiequeens.com/archives/AQprint6NZ1985.html
Cheers for the replys!! Got my Tickets!!!! Cant wait!!! Yep looking like NZ is fully behind Queen maybe a second show??! esp if this one is a sell out and being the last scheduled for this tour down under...
that was announced on the back of the presale - tickets only went on sale this morning for the first (and now second) show.
A cursory poke at the ticketek website shows me that it's mostly sold out now.
Lucky I got my front row tickets as part of the QueenOnline pre-presale last week.
I'm going to be surrounded by Adam Lambert fans in guyliner but who cares. It's going to be a hell of a lot of fun.
This week has turned out pretty good - the Queen shows announced and then going along last night to see the Wellington Phoenix beat West Ham.

Fan club was great for getting tickets in the 90s (and earlier)
These days: fast internet connection is all you need really.
Besides, im sure it will not sell out quickly if at all.
Good luck!
Looks like the first 2 shows are pretty much sold out.
They've published a waitlist for a 3rd show. I reckon it's to gather data on whether to put the 3rd show on.
