Highlights:
Nevermore bass solo was definitely a surprise! Now I may be wrong about this, because it took a while before figuring it out. The ending was definitely Nevermore. At first I think I was mistaking it for Love Of My Life, but it wasn't quite right... and then it hit me.
Brian May wore a Habs hockey sweater (Montreal Canadiens) during the encore.
Adam Lambert, who I wasn't expecting much from, did a fantastic job - definitely hit all the notes - and really got the crowd going whenever it was time to do so.
The light show really has to be seen to be believed. May be worth putting out on blu ray.
There's more, but after listening to Brian solo, and hearing bits of Bijou! I believe I got my money's worth tonight!
For someone too young to have seen Queen live (I'm 30), tonight was absolutely insane! Just hearing the roar of Brian's RS moments before the show began was incredible.
Outstanding show. Hands down, better than the Paul Rodgers shows I saw as far as production and performances. However, I still have a soft spot for that San Diego 2006 show because I was surprised as how much Paul connected with that audience and appreciated his songs as much as Queen's.
This is a show, no, a spectacle that anybody can appreciate and not only Queen fans.
To me, the defining moment was when Brian asked us if we liked the new guy. Huge roar. Unbelievable.
I loved Neil's bass solo with the Nevermore bit. Beautiful. Bits of Don't try suicide and Body Language (which people seemed to identify). Brian's solo had a bit of Bijou thrown in there. I heard a few familiar riffs here and there, like if they were going to jump into a few seconds of an old Rock and Roll song but they didn't.
Before Somebody to Love I could have sworn that Spike was playing the chords to No-one but You real quiet, while Adam gave a speech. Did anybody else notice this? Maybe it was something else.
I want it all was not that great and Radio Ga Ga was so-so. I'm slowly accepting that thy will not change the setlist... EVER. But if they did, they could do better than these two songs.
I can't believe they didn't bring back the Flash intro and We Will Rock You (fast) from those early shows with Adam. There's been enough Flash references in Family Guy and the Ted movie so it wouldn't be out of place.
I'm so glad to see people mentioning the Nevermore bit in the bass solo! I was at the 2nd Vegas show and since then this is the first I've seen anybody write about Nevermore. So awesome.
I was also at the San Diego show in 2006. That was a truly great show but I think this is just a better tour all around (AL certainly has a lot to do with that IMO).
Nevermore.. Of course. I couldn't figure it out at all. All I could think was, I know this, I know this but never clicked and before I got it he moved on to other stuff. Death on two legs was in there as well I think. For a brief moment I thought they may actually play BodyLanguage, the crowd seemed up for it.
Anyhow it was a fabulous show. I was lucky enough to see Queen many times with Freddie, and this was the first post Freddie concert that actually felt like a Queen concert and not a tribute show. I love Paul Rodgers, but he was never at home singing Queen, I'm actually quite disappointed that Montreal will be the only show on this tour I'll see, I like that Adam isn't trying to be Freddie, but his voice is just a more natural fit. They look like a band, not a supergroup.
I swear Brian actually cried during Love of my life. The place did look fantastic.
Initially I was disappointed with Brian's solo, it took too long to get going I thought, but that's a minor criticism and the last 7/8 minutes of it were fabulous. (15 minutes in total).
They have reworked the endings for quite a few songs which I quite liked. Somebody to love really rocks to a conclusion and FBG rocks for a good while after the vocals are done. I think AL may be doing his first costume change then.
Question for anyone who's been to multiple shows, After Tie Your Mother Down has Adam Lambert always done an extended sing a long with the audience. It lasted a few minutes and if the band were just jamming it was quite impressive, but I'm guessing its the same at all shows.
A good 2:25 show though. That's about 35 minutes longer than the last PR tour in NorthAmerica with a shorter set list.I sound like I was checking my watch all night but really I wasn't, it was excellent and I think it's a shame that I'll likely never see them again.
I could have listened to an entire show's worth of Brian soloing. I have a Burns model of his guitar and I just can't get it to make those notes or tones. It's nice to see someone that knows how to play it for a change. ;-)
Well I would usually agree, I look forward to it, but last night for some reason I just found myself thinking,'well play something'. And to be fair, eventually he did.
I really don't want that to be the message I took from the concert though, because overall it was one of the best I've seen.
I have only been to one show, but I have heard recordings of a few......yeah the TYMD singalong bit is done every night I guess......but still pretty damn cool.....
