On first glance I thought the article was mostly just a rehash of old research on Queen. Having read it in its entirety though, it is actually a pretty good article. I wouldn't have expected Rolling Stone to pen something of the sort on Queen. We all know the bile they've spewed about the band over the years.
There are some interesting new facts in the article, especially about Queen in the 1970s. I love the bit about the show in Manchester, where somebody in the audience called Freddie a "poof", and Freddie proceeded to tell the lighting people to shine the spotlight on this odious jerk and ask him to repeat what he had just said (he didn't, of course, he must have shat his pants). I had never heard that before. Freddie knew how to put bullies in their place.
All in all I think it's a well balanced article, and sums up Freddie well - very talented, very private, loved music, lived a life of excess, ended up regretting the excess, dedicated himself to his art till the day he died. My admiration for him never ceases.
