Hi, I'm from Canada so I would like to know who in the blue hell is Paul Weller? I just read today that he once said that "Freddie was a cunt for wanting to bring ballet to the working class." Did he have the success Queen had? That's what I thought... |

Paul Weller is popular in the UK, can't speak for the rest of the world. He was part of The Jam and The Style Council then a solo artist. He was part of the punk/new wave/mod revival thing... so really, he's going to have it in for a band like Queen. I'm not sure when these comments were made but it was probably a soundbite to get an NME headline or something. Personally, I think he comes across as a bit of a twat, but some of his early and later music is quite good. |

I can assure you that nobody knows who the fuck he is in North America... |

Wikipedia? Or, for that matter, the Personal forum on QZ? What you're doing here is pretty close to trolling. |

Seriously, you're going to bash on someone you haven't even heard of and are too lazy to google because he said something less than flattering about Freddie Mercury? Stepford. |

Who is he? Someone who really is old enough to know better than to walk around with that ridiculous haircut thinking he's still 21............ |

Try Google or Wikipedia you retard. Don't embarrass yourself with questions like this. Do you speak for all North Americans? |

As a fan of both Queen (pre 1991) and Jam/ Style Council/ Paul Weller I have never come across him saying anything (good or bad) about Queen. I know that Johnny Rotten said a similar thing on UK Radio 1 once about Fred 'bringing ballet to the masses' which was probably a mis-quote lifted from the notorious NME interview ('Is This Man a Prat"). Paul Weller comes over as a bit abrasive sometimes and does tend to shoot from the hip but Queen have worse enemies than him. And he is a bloody good songwriter with an on-going credible career. Not a creative has-been living on past glories using a talent show twat to stand in for the irreplaceable. |

He's slagged off a number of musicians. link I bought Paul Weller's Stanley Road album back in the 90's, which is supposed to be his best album. Dull as dish water. As for him as a character, he comes over as a miserable bastard who takes himself way too seriously. |

You get a life. You're throwing a hissy-fit over a musician you've never even heard of trying to put him down with the completely ridiculous claim that nobody's heard of him (I'm no fan and I've definitely heard of him, as has anyone with more than a cursory interest in popular music). You do so in a completely pointless topic in an inappropriate forum. So yeah, it really sounds like *I'm* the one who needs to get a life here... |

Are you the police of right and wrong on the Forum? And I'm sorry I didn't choose the right forum because I don't lose my life (contrary to you) on this Forum. And who are you to decide why a topic is right or wrong. You're the only one who didn't touch the point of the topic because you had to bully trough the topic to show that you are a man and that you control things while I'm sure nobody gives a rat ass about. You're the one creating fights because you don't have anything to say. By the way, I've seen more pointless topic than this one...Also, I don't give a damn what you think and I will start any topic I want in respect of other members and in the right forum...but what you might say or think, I couldn't care less...have a nice day Groucho... |

He recorded brilliant records with the Jam, some great solo stuff. |

And he is an ambitious b@&£)(-/rd - whenever his band The Jam failed to crack the USA he ditched them for a pseudo-soul outfit, then dumped them and tired to be Eric Clapton He is where he deserved to be, plugging away in the smallest venues in the UK. I don't think Freddie had the slightest interest in his opinions... |

Well, I saw him in concert and he did good concerts by his age, and brilliant arrengment for the Stealy Council songs. Other thing is the person. The things are not white or black. |

"22 Dreams" is definitely one of my favourite albums of the last decade. Highly recommended. |

The Jam are mainly rememembered in the UK as a Mod band. Setting Sons is an excellent album and 'Smithers Jones' one of my favourite songs. It reminds me of The Beatles' 'A Day in a Life' and ELO's 'Diary of Horace Wimp'. Their most well-known song is probably 'That's Entertainment' from the Sound Affects album. |
