Being on a island 700kms off NZ with crappy internet sucks at times..!! So stoked that Queen are finally releasing some good fashioned old heavy metal shit of the 70s!! for a mid twenties dude I can't even imagine how long you old bastards have been waiting for this...! Cant wait to show my mates how heavy Queen can be and why bands such as Metallica consider them a major influence. With the 1974 40th ann release of The Rainbow and the current 40th theme going for Queen.. got me thinking. I hope they pull another surprise out of the bag and release the Earls Court concert...? We will of course have to wait till 2017... How freaking awesome would that be! I think that the release of this concert is a must for Brian and Roger! Not taking anything away from The Rainbow concert... But Earls showcases Queen (a band with many peaks over their live careers)...... at, what has to be the very absolute summit of their peak's of the 70s if not their whole live career. Its Queen on the bridge of their live shows, leaving their heavy metal roots and heading into the more radio friendly and trade mark hits of the the late 70's and 80's that Queen will always be known for.. Its an end of the era for many of the songs from their first three albums such as Liar (in full), Lap of the Gods, Ogre battle, March of the Black Queen and many more that dropped off the setlist after that final show, And it's full of the radio friendly hits that Queen are known for to all the casual fans to Queen, songs such as Your my best friend, Somebody to love and Good old fashioned lover boy. This has to be THE best all round live concert that would connect every queen fan from the hardcore fans of Queen, Queen II era to The Game and A kinda magic "pop rock single Queen fans", a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy. It's also a concert showcases every member at their individual best and virtuous on their respective instruments and under their own spotlight. You got John doing his bass solo on Liar, Roger doing his drum solos on Liar and Keep yourself alive, Arguably Brians best solo attempt on brighton rock and last but not least... Freddie and his very touching piano solo on you take my breath away, and at the same time showing the tightness and the professionalism of them as a band. Especially those technical cliches that Freddie had on his mic. At the same time, showing some led zep style very loose jamming on songs such as the middle section of liar before the all day long bits, doin alright and the rock and roll medley. This concert has so many unique events that I would love nothing more than to hear Brian's and Rogers memories on this show and all the unique things that happened such as John Deacons clearly audible out of tune singing and rare songs such as Doin Alright that were played, thats if they do a commentary take. Hey Rainbow was important and significant for the fact it was one Queens first tour and it show cases them as a heavy metal contender, Hammersmith was an important event as it was xmas eve and of course the release of Bohem Rhap only a few weeks prior. But Earls has to be one of Queens finest selection of songs live. What do you guys think |

Well first Youtube blocked all Rainbow videos and a couple of days later they officially announced the Rainbow release. A few days ago I noticed I can't find any video from Hammersmith Odeon 75 (just the Rock Masters edit or audio-only posts), and I'm pretty sure I had some Hammy videos on my channel too. I hope it means we'll get a Hammersmith Odeon 75 release soon (next year would be logical, since this was a promotional concert for A Night At The Opera and next year it's 40th anniversary of both ANATO and the concert |

Didn't Greg brooks say a while ago that several archive concerts were being worked on, for release, 1 every year, and then a box set ? Or did I dream that ? |

fras444. I was lucky enough to be at the first night of Earl's Court. It was my first Queen gig so I would love to see this more than anything else. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see it in its entirety as a release. I never trust anything that Queen Productions say because they (or rather Brian and Roger) seem to change their minds with the weather so it would be useless relying on anything they say - for or against. The reason I doubt it will be released is because Jim Beach (Queen's manager) told me so to my face. I was at a gig in London and YellowWire were supporting. The lead singer is jim Beach's son. After their set the singer was at the bar and I spoke to him. Not wanting to miss an opportunity I asked him to ask his Dad to get some 70's Queen gigs released. He said "Tell him yourself, he's over there". I had a very amicable chat with Jim Beach and (amongst other things) he told me that Earl's Court would NEVER be released due to too many technical problems they have with the recordings, not least Freddie's piano mic being on the blink. How accurate all that is I don't know but he seemed genuine and quite certain about it. He did say that the odd song would certainly pop up on other releases. Personally, after that I've given up hope on it |

Hammy 1975 is a boring concert and they weren't in the greatest shape. Give me Hyde Park 1976 instead. |

I think Hammy 75 would be pretty pointless now given the release of The Rainbow. All the tracks on Hammy are covered by The Rainbow. But Hyde Park? Now that really would be spectacular! |

Give me both on multiple format. Ill buy everything |

I've just searched up Hammy 75 quickly and there's DVD-quality footage out there just from that, so surely that's a plus, and I KNOW I found a full DVD-quality video of the whole concert once. And, much more importantly and agreeing to your point, anyone who has ANATO 30th anniv. documentary will know that there's HQ Hyde Park clips on there! They've been holding out on us waaaaaay too long! |

What do we know about '70s Queen archives? Queen I Tour Filmed: None Recorded: Golders Green* *Do the band have the multitracks? If i'm not mistaken i read they were damaged Queen II Tour Filmed. None (some snippets of Rainbow, but i mean full gigs or almost full) Recorded: Rainbow 74 (March) Sheer Heart Attack Tour* Filmed: Rainbow 74 (November) Recorded: Rainbow 74 (November) * Maybe the last gig at Budokan was recorded in audio too? They have video snippets of the whole gig. A Night At The Opera Tour Filmed: Hammersmith 75 - Hyde Park 76* Recorded: Hammersmith 75 - Hyde Park 76 *Is the video of Hyde Park in good condition? Some sources claim it was damaged at some points, at least the audio is OK, as we could see in Days of our Lives and the ANATO DVD extras. A Day At Races Tour Filmed: Earl's Court (But Jim Beach said it is unreleaseable) Recorded: Earl's Court. News of the World Filmed: Houston 77 Recorded Houston 77 Jazz Tour Filmed: Paris 79 - Hammersmith 79 Recorded: Who knows? At lot of gigs were recorded for Live Killers* Is a mystery if the band have the multitracks of Hammy 79 or they were stolen. --- Is the above correct? I am missing something? |

That's right i forget Budokan 79. I am sorry to say this but that gig was kind of awful, so maybe it was selective memory. And about Hyde Park, i think it was the last gig of the ANATO tour, and they did it when they were recording Races, so that's is why they played some song of that album. That year they played Budokan earlier, and the setlist were amazing, one could think with so many gigs at Budokan they will record (in audio) some of them. But who knows? |

splicksplack "fras444. I was lucky enough to be at the first night of Earl's Court. It was my first Queen gig so I would love to see this more than anything else. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see it in its entirety as a release." You lucky old bastard I'd give my left one to see that show!!! The shit that I was brought up on... Spice girls, backstreet boys.... atleast I can say (with some bassic maths haha just formed in my mother's belly when Freddie did some of his last live Queen shows, I was present during two Freddie Albums and MIH!!!) That has to be easily one of the highlights of Queens live performance recorded. As I have said in this post, what with Queen at that bridge in their career and the selection and genre of songs present in that gig and the hits that they had at the time it has to be a must to release that regardless of the so called glitches they had.. It's a demonstration Queen can show todays generation that shit happens on stage and how you just got to be professional and carry on thru and jam it out. Everything about that performance it's just top aces and as I have said, its still got many hits that the general queen fans know of. Yeah with the release of the 74 rainbow, the hammersmith is what it is, but hey its an 70s show, an important event with the release of Boh Rhap and its march at no1 in the charts, breaking that 3min single hit rule and it show as I hope Brian will tell in the commentary them were battling flus and all doing it on xmas eve when they could be with loved ones... All so too I guess they could do something similar that Led Zep did with some of their cut out songs live at Albert 1970 and have the last three songs on the dvd and have picture's and a commentary by the two describing the encore especially that elusively live song see what a fool I have been and here what Brian can remember about that blues song. I hope that there is a live recording of that elusive song and the very rare Hangman!!! Anyone know the history behind hangman? particularly from the members themselves about the song and what its true status is..? apart from the "someone owns the only recordings" story. I really hope they release all possible recordings of their very high in energy in their 30's performances of the 70s and also maybe a rarity's setlist of rarely heard songs live that were recorded from partly recorded/bootleg concerts. Which is something that Queen could also look at doing something similar to what led zep did and ask people for any recording's that they have done and do a release of that footage, show a fans perspective of their live shows |
