I am talking about testing HI-FI, headphones, speakers etc.
For me its Scandal 12" version
?ecouse of the pounch, the bass, the drumming, the precision in "cut and release". Its exelent audio-wise with superior bass and treble.
Perhaps it lacks frequencies in the mid rage.
Sombody to Love i guess is good for that.
Also A kind of Magic seems like a good candidate.
Never ever EVER considered this question, so the answer is NO.
even when running a studio, I never used queen albums/songs as a basis for finding an established mix (quick mixes for live bands).... always relied on the elements that had to be heard and sub groupings for estranged members (I.e. brass)...
Nice question.
Optimal mixing?
I'll just give something contrary.
As much as innuendo may be my favorite queen album (to listen to.... tie with MIH. ... based on nothing more than enjoyment) it's probably one of the flattest mixes in their career.
JAZZ takes the cake in being HORRIBLY uneven (akin to Depeche modes SONGS OF FAITH AND DEVOTION as being testimonial to HORRIBLE mixes of great bands' albums.) ... that album is just gruesomely uneven. It's scary especially considering it's been given the opportunity to be remixed. Considering it was RTB'S return to production I wonder how the fuuuuuck that ever occurred.
Come to think of it, THE MIRACLE ... does have a uniquely polished sound. It's hard for me to separate mood and feeling from judgment in affectation but that is really clear as day
Well, kinda...
If i want to buy a headphone for example with a flat response at the low-freq i always listen to AOBTD.
BUT if i want headphones with some more of a rich mid-freq i always listen to Mysterious Ways because of the nice Bongo intro with the Envelope guitar sound.

I agree.
In fact Innuendo ( the song) suffers for me the most. It has so many potentials especially as it esculating but the mixing dosen't do it justice.Flat and what a waist.
TShowMGOn is kind of ok. But in the begining it creates a very surround atmospere that dosen't evolves as much. Also lacks some bass.
I Can't Live With You is no good. Brian has stated that whatever they did after one point, the mixing was not bringing any magic back.
The Hitman also suffers. I think it had potentials to be a total heavy metal blaster, but NO. Flat also.
All God's People perhaps is the one with the more dynamics in the mixing from this album.
