I know Mick Jagger does workouts, he does Yoga, ánd he runs, ánd his stage performance is a hell of a workout aswell...
I truly think that Freddie his '86 energy level was comparable with the '89 - '90 Mick energy level.
Come to think about it, the songs Freddie had to sing were much more demanding, though he still ran around during all of them (well, except for the acoustic ones offcourse)
So.. We all know Freddie as the energetic stage performer, but... What did he do to get in shape? Did he workout alot (lift weights and such) Or did he just rely on an afternoon run in the park and his stage "running" ?
Pretty sure I read somewhere, on more than one occasion, that Freddie did go to the gym. I think it was also in line with that stupid clone look from the 80s. I doubt he worked out a lot though and he seemed naturally fit as well. I can't quite visualise the idea of Freddie Mercury going to a park for a run.
I read in some stories posted by person in the known, that Freddie lifted some weigts for a while until he got bored with them, so probably in 1983 that was. Freddie also got a good cardio workout from activities that brought his ultimate demise. The bigger the better...
i remember that on the montreal dvd when you put the commentary Roger mentioned something regarding Freddie's physical fitness,
i think he said something like Fred was in the best shape possible, and i don't remember for sure, but he may have mentioned that Freddie indeed worked out during that period, that was during the game tour.
On the Magic Years documentary there is a short snippet of an interview in which Feddie says that he can't just do a tour, he has to go to the gym and get fit. Beyond that he doesn't go into details of what he did.
Freddie was naturally slim. In the 1970s he was skinny rather than slim - his legs and arms looked like a girl's, as evidenced in the Bohemian Rhapsody video, were he wears that tight-fitting white outfit. All of Queen were rake thin in the 1970s, the only possible exception being Roger, who had a slightly fuller figure.
In the 80s Freddie plumped up a bit, but he still had very little body fat - that is why he appears muscular. His legs did remain quite thin though. Jim Hutton even remarked on this.
I think his naturally slim physique helped him run around on stage. But he also must have done something else to keep him so energised. Maybe it was the thrill he got out of having a large audience.

He said something like " Freddie in his manly/masculine prime here".
There are a couple of photos on the net of 80s Freddie with barbells. And a few of him with a tennis racket. So I guess he was generally quite active...?
Costa86, funnily enough it seems that everyone in those days, the 70's were rake thin....certainly my dad, of the same generation was as thin as them, as were all his mates, etc.
In those days people stayed looking younger for longer too and seemed very thin. I think, although we don't realise it, our diets are probably much less healthy than they were for their generation. Nowadays obesity is a much bigger issue, so people back then look too thin to us, but actually they were healthy.
I have no real evidence but I have hard time imagining Freddie jogging or pumping it up at gym on a regular basis. Of course he might have been to gym few times or lifted weights for some time, like few people here said!
But I remember reading that during his time at boy school in India he was quite good at boxing and he ran marathons, so I believe he was sporty and in a quite good health as a young boy. So as an adult he must have had pretty good base health with his wild live performances!
It's a shame Fred didn't live for a few more years as he could've switched to an iridium nuclear-energy cell as used by the Series 800 Terminator.

Sort of looks like he beefed up sometime between 1982-84
He probably did work out, because he was pretty thin in the 70s
His physical appearance changed throughout the 70's too...
It's true he does look 'bigger' after '84 than he did in '82, I think it was the lack of touring, it made him a bit 'sloppy' (he has a belly on The Works Tour pictures from Rio and so forth!)
^Freddie started workout in the early 80's but only part time for touring. That's the reason why he was so "masculine" during Live Aid. Obviosly he was in a workout period in preparation for the "Works" Tour( Japan/Australia) at that point.

Well the United States of Government are working on this issue, and Canary Wharf and in particular, 8, Canada Square E14 is the first target but there are many others in Zone 2 and Zone 1 of London.
