If you had the opportunity to be with Queen in the sessions of a song in the studio, wich song would you pick to be there? And if this is stretching it too much, lets just say you had loads of footage of a making-of type (like those we have for One Vision, but even more material) is there is a particular song you would choose and why? For me it would be The Show Must Go On for the apparent reasons of the extra effort and the charged "environment" around it. |

Either Bo Rhap or Somebody to Love. Because I would love to be there when Freddie bribed the guys with coffee and biscuits, and then convinced them to do a few hundred more harmonies! |

I'm between The Show Must Go On, Innuendo, Mother Love (1991-1995) and Somebody To Love. :P |

Fairy Feller Master Stroke. So much information on that song! I'd love to go through it track by track to see how they put it all together. |

BoRhap...just to see if that "thin tape" story is true. Mother Love...was it in May 91' or later? Silver Salmon...when was it recorded ? and a couple of others...:) |

It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall during the The Game sessions. First use of synthesizers, less reliance on layered vocals, etc. |

I'd prefer the Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. It'd be a God's gift to be there seeing their creativeness. |

Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy (great song, and I believe the A Day at the Races-sessions would have been a nice period to witness). |

I guess Bo Rhap... With Innuendo as a close second... And a very close third The Prophet's Song... In any random order :-) |

FFMS, Black Queen, Bo Rhap, Somebody To Love ... or something crazy and funny like Seaside Rendezvous |
Stelios 14.04.2014 04:41 |
Strange that already two of you mentioned Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. It is one my favourites but always seems to go under the radar in terms of creativity and as a song altogether. Progressively i was convinced that Queen-fans valued it as a weird/not accessible " Freddie thing". Glad i was wrong. |
Stelios 14.04.2014 04:50 |
Also Stealin' gives me the ipmression of a good "round the table" team work. Like an old blues band jamming and improvising and having a good time. Queen Stealin' EXTENDED DEMO Remaster 2013 GREAT VOCALS IMPROVISATION |

Body Language - just to see Roger, Brian and John's reaction when Freddie said "listen to this beauty - this is a 'definite' for the album"!!! |

Aisuru Hito wrote: It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall during the The Game sessions. Not really - out of 10 'Game' songs, 9 (90%) have multi-tracked backing vocals. That's more reliance on layered vocals than Jazz (84.61%) or News of the World (63.64%). To answer the original question, I'd like to have been present on 'Innuendo', just to see Steve Howe. |
cmsdrums 23.04.2014 14:18 |
Without wanting to sound unappreciative of Sebastian's fine work, but 63.64% of News of the World has multi-layered vocals?!! |
brENsKi 23.04.2014 16:12 |
don't really care what song...just that very first recording session...see how "up" or "psyched" they were or even how nervous/confident they were |

cmsdrums wrote: Without wanting to sound unappreciative of Sebastian's fine work, but 63.64% of News of the World has multi-layered vocals?!!Yes: * We Will Rock You (choruses). * We Are the Champions (lift + chorus). * All Dead All Dead (choruses, especially the last one). * Get Down Make Love (choruses). * Sleeping on the Sidewalk (3rd chorus). * Who Needs You (before the solo + last middle-eight). * It's Late (choruses). That's 7 songs out of 11. 7*100/11 = 63.6363636363...%, which is traditionally rounded up to 63.64% because the third decimal (6) is equal or larger than 5, which means it's closer to 63.64% than to 63.63%. Of course, you could argue that the 'oh's and 'ah's on 'Fight from the Inside' are multi-layered... which I disagree with, but even in that case, it'd be 72.73% - still far less reliance on multi-layered vocals than 'The Game'. |
cmsdrums 24.04.2014 08:27 |
Depends on your measurement though... you could do it by the length (in mins/secs) of each multi layered part in relation to the length of that song, or in relation to the album as a whole, and come up with a different percentage? Not knocking it at all as I use your info regularly and admire and repect your dedication. :-) |

I think a better way to rephrase it would be: 'The Game has a larger percentage of tracks with multi-layered vocals than both Jazz and NOTW.' |

Panchgani wrote: Good CompanyAs much as I love Dr. Bri and appreciate that song, I would be bored by the third or fourth consecutive day of him putting it together. I wouldn't say the same about BoRhap or Somebody To Love as I think it could have been fun to see them record the vocals where it's the three of them singing as opposed to a single member multilayering something (Brian/guitars, Freddie/vocals). Maybe some rocker for me... I will go for Rock it (Prive Jive) just because I love the track and I would get to hear both Rog and Fred's versions separately. |
