Rated number 39 - i'm pretty sure however the list got created, they didn't realize the significance of the number.
But there you you go.
Actually when looking at the list, Queen's spot isn't so bad. I'd move it to No. 29 with Moving Pictures moving a little further down the list to number 30 (after ANATO). Great album but not No, 21.
but the flip-side of that coin is - look at the list of classic albums BELOW queen in that list
40. Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
44. Beatles - Revolver
45. Neil Young - Harvest
46. Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet
47. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
48. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
50. Boston - Boston
51. Who - Tommy
56. Metallica - Master Of Puppets
57. Deep Purple - Machine Head
67. Cream - Disraeli Gears
68. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
70. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
71. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
74. Jethro Tull - Aqualung
81. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
85. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I
87. Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
88. Def Leppard - Hysteria
91. Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
95. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
96. Neil Young - After The Gold Rush
fucks' sake - some of the list is on it's head
on another note: I can go as far down as ANATO and name only 4 albums i don't have - Are You Experienced, Ghosts In the Machine and the 2 Radiohead albums
Well, it's all arguable.
Keep in mind that this represents Canada's, or more specifically, Montreal's tastes. UK's version would differ greatly - and I would probably side with a more UK version of this type of list. Ie. UK would obviously have a Beatles album at No. 1 - and I wouldn't ever argue with that --> Sgt Pepper, most likely.... with OK Computer in the top 5.
The lack of Automatic For The People is astounding even from a Montrealer's point of view (that being me)... This should fit into every top 25.
Pearl's Jam - Ten is a great album, but not top 100 material - I would argue for their No Code album, but that's only because I'm a fan.
If you're wondering about why all the Yes, Supertramp, Police & Genesis albums - that's just because it's Montreal - very big prog rock community - and lots of Police fans around - Police gets very heavy airplay on that station.
Again, Top 30 should have had Queen and is very arguable. Below that, I didn't even look but as someone pointed out there's a hell of a lot of albums that deserve a higher rating... Brother In Arms, After The Gold Rush & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road all placed in the 90s... pretty bad. But the fact that Steve Miller's Fly Like An Eagle & Def Leppard's Hysteria is rated higher than each of those - WOW. Shameful. Even for a Montreal radio station
ANATO at #39, hmm.......most likely by accident, but that is kinda funny.......
I wonder if they had a list of best sci fi novels of all time, would they put Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy at #42?
