I had an amazing time at the venue, Gary Mullen and The works never sounded better, and his vocals were top notch! Not bad for a guy who's been doing this act for 10 solid years now! He was playful and fun, dressed and almost looked the part, and interacted with the audience and really played to us, the Queen fans.
They began with the intro to "Flash" from the "Flash Gordon" soundtrack, and it was nonstop from there, culminating before the break with the amazing "Don't Stop Me Now," one of my favorite all-time Queen songs, and I sang along with the rest of them from my seat in FRONT ROW!
As you can tell by my screen name (and my tattoo - picture later) I'm 100% for Freddie, and Gary did not dissapoint. He had the moves down all the way. At one point there was a subtle guitar solo, then a quick acoustic set, and even a drum solo too! The four other members of The Works really did well, from piano to drums to lead and bass guitar.
12 songs, one 15 minute intermission, 10 more songs and a 3 song encore, ending with "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions," and of course you HAVE to have Queen's version of "God Save The Queen" as they took their bows.
Almost three hours total (from 7pm to 10:30) and Gary was everywhere - I took an amazing amount of photos, and I stuck around and yelled at the guitar tech for the setlist - and he gave it to me! (All is included in the photos.)
I suggest you check these guys out - they are planning a summer 2014 tour of Mexico, Australia (why not? that's where they're from) and of course, England! They'll be hitting the East Coast in April and then they're overseas for the rest of the year. Its' worth the price of the ticket and they really rocked the house!
Anyway, thanks for letting me bend your ear a sec and enjoy the pictures!
(I'll post videos on YouTube, just look for them by way of Rosemont, Illinois.)
I saw them when they visited Florida a fe years back. They were very good. Sadly the audience was not big and I guess it's not worth then coming back again. Highlight of the show was, for me, don't stop me now.
On the topic of Gary though, seems to have regained his voice a bit from when I last heard him. There was a show on the Announce forum a year or two ago where he sounded more like Satchmo, but he seems to be back on form now.
