after some comparison, the next logical step is to share the transfer from the vinyl with the same title published in 1986 another step towards the definitive version of this concert BIG thanks to Davide Traversi the head of the italian queen fan club for sharing his transfer of his copy of the LP! Thank you, so is this the currently best version? The funny thing is that LOML appears to be longer than on the CD rip :-) |

pittrek wrote: Thank you, so is this the currently best version? The funny thing is that LOML appears to be longer than on the CD rip :-)might be a speed issue? for a def. version I would not perform a click filter/repair as this usually has some kind of impact esp. on the higher frequencies... music actually sounds amazing on this lp version but it has way too much hiss over all which is very annoying when listening to quiet tracks like Love of my life, Who wants... or In the lap of the Gods over headphones, so lot's of space left to improve for a def. version in my mind. Would be much more interesting if we had the source that was used for this bootleg... |

I normalized the CD version and the amount of hiss is identical. I doubt we'll ever hear anything that's better than this LP. Even with the bit of hiss in the quieter moments, it is marvelous. Sorry, this was not meant to be ungrateful in any way but I do not like hissy live recordings. If I find hiss I ask myself where it comes from and if there might be another source without that. Hiss usually occurs in copy processes so I have the right to assume the original source is free from hiss and a hissy source is more likely a copy (of a copy of a copy...). Even if you think it's ungrateful. This is not your baby, it's an illigeal live release so don't feel attacked if anybody criticizes the content. I doubt the German radio station SWF3 recorded this concert in that quality, not even in the 80s. I'm sorry if you feel offended by my comments but if you don't recognize the hiss on this recording you maybe should upgrade your home stereo or your headphones? And maybe you should start again discussing more about Queen and not comment every statement here. That's really pain in the ass |
fr1986 17.03.2014 15:34 |
unfortunately this has several cuts, for instance, its missing Dayyy- ohh, also there is a cut after pressure and before dust, also in crazy little thing called love(a bit of the begining). |
thefallenqueen 17.03.2014 15:40 |

can you share a better version? |
thefallenqueen 17.03.2014 16:15 |
lol, you haven't understood very much of what I wrote, have you? |
bootLuca 17.03.2014 16:31 |
QRTW is full of hiss but remains one of the best illegal live recording of the queen catalogue, if you can't share a better version I don't understand the sense of your critics to this recording! |
thefallenqueen 17.03.2014 16:43 |
please read again my comments carfully, I can't believe you're really that dumb you're trying to make me believe... the fact that I described hiss in the quiet tracks does not necessarily mean you'll have to feel offended nor that I have a better version. I only said that a hissy source leads me to the conclusion that there might be a pre-source with less amount of hiss. This forum is full of such kind of high philosophic thoughs :-) |

thefallenqueen wrote: well, the lineage might be radio station reel tape > perhaps audio tape > bootleg, we don't know which gen tape was used and low budget vinyl productions cause a lot of hiss so it's more than likely that somewhere a slightly better sounding version of this source is collecting dust...There's really no point in trying to deduce what a bootleg's lineage is. Any number of things could have happened between the source and the pressing. Like I said, the hiss is identical to the CD version, which was not sourced from the vinyl version. Therefore the hiss has nothing to do with the vinyl. And since it was probably recorded from FM radio onto a cassette (it's unlikely to be a pre-FM reel), tape hiss is inevitable. The mudslinging match above was completely unnecessary. Discussing the origins of recordings, even if it involves flaws in the sound, do not and should not imply any kind of ungratefulness. If nobody talked about this stuff, we'd be a bunch of yes-men sycophants just saying "thanks" like on most other music sharing forums. These discussions keep this place alive ! |

Thanks a lot for sharing this. There are three concerts of the Magic tour that have a magical feel to me. They are Budapest, Germany, and Knebworth. This concert is a real gem and i'm looking forward to listen to this version of it. It's really refreshing to watch Queenzone members uniting for the sake of finding the definitive version of this concert. It still is about the music! This is the reason why i still come to this site. Thanks for all of you involved in this project and in the discussions of it. This is really fantastic. |

brians wig 20.03.2014 09:10 |
I used to have the FM radio version on cassette at the time, but when this record came out I ditched it in favour of. I've since been told many times that the LP is edited whereas the radio broadcast wasn't. Anyone know for sure? |
The Real Wizard 20.03.2014 12:40 |
^ correct. There are three between-song chunks edited out, including Freddie's vocal exchange with the audience. But the songs are essentially all there. |

This concert is really a joy to listen to. "Friends will be Friends" is already my favorite version of this song live, because i can clearly hear John Deacon's bass and it's wonderfull. John is the poet of Bass guitar, and it clearly shows here. Sometimes i wish that live releases weren't so "worked out" to the point of being dificult to really appreaciate each instrument, even though i can understand why it is so. "In the Lap of the gods" it's also wonderfull in this version. I hope one day they release a live Box with this concert in it. |
