There are lots of great write-ups on this site, but this one is particularly interesting because it focuses on a track that has been all but swallowed up by the annuls of history via the number one singles on side A.
Thoughts?

Great song and had the most potential for a Brian lead voc song ( save for the bridge) to have been a hit single IMO. Having said that I've often wondered if Freddie did a whole take or if it was just the bridge.
I think The Real Wizard wants our thoughts on the article..?
Sail away Sweet Sister is not really one of my Queen favourites, so I have never given it much thought; but this article made me view it in a completely different light! It does sound really pervy! (the song, I mean). Wonder what was going through Dr. May's head when he wrote it...
Sail Away Sweet Sister is in my top 10 Queen tracks; brilliant melody, fantastically lifting guitar solo, and such tasty bass parts on the quieter parts of the verses and the outro.
That's one thing this band never did was really actually tell you what their songs were about. You had to pick them apart to find out what the writer was revealing. Bo Rhap is a good example. Freddie never told us what it was about but now we're starting get the picture. As The Wizard pointed out, Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock and It's Late are all examples of Brian telling us his stories without really giving it away. Very clever in my opinion.
Interesting take on it. I always thought it was "hon (ey) child/chile... mock southern black. ....
Wow. I always innocently related it to someone growing up and leaving the flock. Having best friends with sisters I've always equated it with that cart Blanche
Interesting.
Ditto now I'm here as per Mr beans interpretation.
Never thought of that. No wonder it was kinda cryptic
I always intereprested the "hot child" line with 'hot' intending to mean "spirited, talented, got everything going for them...etc..." as opposed to anything more nefarious.
I recall listening to Sail Away Sweet Sister, it came from a gift from my dad who bought a bootleg cassette of "The Game" at a boot fair when I was 15 in 1995.
I feel fucking "sore" at the moment, and having gone bicycle racing with Freddie Mercury's real wife in 1996 over a number of miles, this horny bitch is now on my radar in my low to mid thirties.
So chow for now all you Queenzone followers.
