Some studio gossip from the german Rocky magazine ( early March 1980)
Mercury and his gang working harder than ever to create their new "kick ass" music style.
Queen set sails for a new direction
The four thoroughbred musician - wich were labelt as one of the "Top Six" best bands of the world by experts- are very exhaustet this time.
Right now they are working hard in the Munich Musicland Studios because their new Record will be released in June this year.
And this LP will be a little bit different. In general we know Freddie Mercury,Brian May,John Deacon and Roger Meddows-Taylor as musicians
with a more extravagant taste/style of music - they use choirs , orchestral arrangements, borrowings on Mozart's music and even includes far east asian Sounds.
But their latest hit "Crazy little things called love" got none of all that. No exotic variations, No choir singsung etc.
Despite that "Crazy little things called love" strikes the charts like a flash. That song catapulted Queen to the "Top" once again.
BRIAN MAY:"We try some good old rock'n roll. We wanted to do something that makes people move their feet - and it worked. We didn't expect that the fans will like it too much -
but they do - so we will go on like that".
In this phase the guys were recording daily - not less than eight hours a day. Usually they arrive at the Musicland Studios at 16.00 in the afternoon and they leave at 04.00
in the morning. If they decide to leave earlier, they often take a visit to their favorite Disco/Club "Sugar Shack" for a well deserved beer.
Freddie is keeping a low profile while the others going to party. Brian explains : "Freddie is totally exhaustet and unfortunally he has an unpleasent intestinal infection". How the band Queen will "survive" all this stress - nobody knows - everyone is complete tired and a 30 date US tour is about to start in the late stages of May and finishes in June.
As always : My english/ translation isn't flawless - I have to rebuild some sentence cause the german original wouldn't make a proper sense in english.
The original writer doesn't need to be a Queen fan - maybe he was hired for the job. I do not correct flaws by the writer.
It's just a nice piece of "Zeitgeist"...
