http://www.gigwise.com/news/88933/Queen-and-Adam-Lambert-to-announce-2014-tour-plans-next-week#f3IgprvRot8bmjti.99 Band announce Madison Square Garden event Queen and Adam Lambert are set to announce their 2014 touring plans next week, at an event at New York's Madison Square Garden. The iconic rockers and American Idol winner are expected to announce a string of US shows, with British fans hoping the band will bring their tour to the UK as well. The band have announced an undisclosed event at Madison Square Garden according to US sources, with more details promised to follow. A famous concert location, it is possible the band will perform live for guests. The band had previously hinted at plans to tour again with Lambert, but now guitarist Brian May, has told Radio 2 that due to the band's 'ongoing' nature, the band will tour again, saying that a US summer tour is currently the most likely option. "We've been talking to Adam Lambert, you know we've already done some gigs with Adam, who is amazing," said May in the interview. "We are ongoing, we can't help it, I think we all protested too much in the sense when Freddie went and we didn't want to talk about it and didn't want to be Queen for a while," he added. "But after a while you realise that people wanna hear the songs and see us do things. So, no matter what you call it, Roger and I do do stuff and I think we'll be doing some more stuff this summer in fact, probably in the States." |

Hope they have modest expectations. Adam Lamberace is not a draw in the states or anywhere else. So basically it comes down to AL fans and those Queen fans who don't find this pairing an embarrassment. |

I have been lurking here for years but never posted, and obviously this is not a popular opinion here, but I saw them in Vegas and Adam was really good. I was shocked. He doesn't sound like a bleating goat. (That is funny but I don't get it at all). No, I am not one of those crazy ass Adam fans that are so annoying but I am looking forward to the tour. I want tickets to be on Brian's side of the stage and enjoy the music I was to young to hear live with Freddie. |

^^^ It's not pissing over anyone's legacy Philip, but it's a business move. As I see it, there are three periods of Queen: first part of their career they were innovators, pushing boundaries in the studio and live, master musicians and showmen. Second part of their career, bigger success in terms of world sales, less quality as they were chasing the singles market, still great musicians, but dodgier material all round. Third part post Freddie is legacy building. They're salesmen. Plain and simple. No shame in that but why you and others get angry about people who are opposed to their heroes becoming near caricatures of themselves is a mystery to me. I love Brain and Roger's playing but wouldn't go near a concert with Adam Lambert or Paul Rodgers as it's shit that's been done forever. If they did a small venue tour featuring people like Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters, Billy Squier, Freddie Nelson, or the guys from Extreme doing obscure songs I'm in. Once the bloom is off the Adam Lambert rose, what are they going to do? Tour with another reality show singer in five years when they're 70 year old men to capture the post American Idol audience? Zzzzzzzzzz. They're now the world's greatest 50% cover band. |

Good timing. I'm moving to New York in a few weeks' time. Anywhere on Northeastern U.S.A. and i'll be there! I wish they would downplay the Adam Lambert component but it seems unlikely. For some reason, Brian thinks everybody in the U.S. loves Adam. I don't believe he's had any major commercial success as a solo artist (cue some Adam fan telling me his record went Gold in Nebraska, or something). |
Wiley 03.03.2014 10:23 |
Also, what's this "Madison Square Garden event"? If it's 3 days away, shouldn't we already have more details? I'm not a sure a live show is an option as Sting and Paul Simon are playing shows on Tuesday and Thursday, there's a Rangers game on Wednesday and a Knicks game on Friday. Also, I don't know if MSG is the place to simply have a press conference and annouce a tour... |

THAT sounds like an appropriate setting for an annoucement (or even a concert) of Queen+Adam Lambert. |

I am not having too high expectations of (Queen/2) + AL, but i am at least willing to give them another touring chance. Paul Rodgers might have been a better fit-in because of him being their generation, and some QPR songs developed really good. What really ruins at least some of them, is that they take all the hits and try to force them onto whoever they force to sing for them. Why? We all know, that Brian and Roger could sing themselves, and i think, they really should do more of that. The people not necessary want to hear the same old hits all again, they want to hear [and see] Brian and Roger singing, and if they brought in some solo stuff of theirs, i would be the last one to mind, because the more confident they are in whatever they are singing the better they get at singing it. So it is quite obvious that Roger should sing RGG, AKOM, TATDOOL and HFE, while Brian would be singing IWIA, TSMGO, TMLWKY and '39. Let's add some covers like Rock'n'Roll, which could be delivered quite by Roger and some minor hits, which nevertheless sound quite good while sung by Brian (like on his solo tours), like NIH, WWRY, HTF or Headlong, and Roger (like on his solo tours), like RTWW. You could fill 2/3 of a concert with all the afore-mentioned and would only need an additional drummer on some songs, which Rufus purely incidentally uses to be. It even stays in the family! Add a singer like PR, who only either would interprete any Queen songs, that would suit him (and there clearly are some) or his own, and you got a whole concert, a good one even, just not another greatest hits show. Just my 2 cents. |

The big hits are exactly what they want to hear. And with Lambert's popularity, this has the potential to be a pretty successful tour. They wouldn't be undertaking it if it wasn't. Look at the 2012 setlists. They likely won't deviate too much from them, if at all. |

All this sounds great to the old school hardcore fans, but is an arena tour of America in 2014 the right place for them to be "dangerous" with their choice of songs.
