I would say that this is one of Freddie's greatest compositions. It reminds me of "Fairy fellers master stroke". I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight about the creation( musically) of this song? I know it was written for the Highlander film: but I'm curious about the amount of work that Freddie spent on this song. Did he compose it on piano? Was he playing guitar? Was Brian part of the writing process? Please discuss. |

I think he means the theme of the song was more in tradition of Freddie's earlier compositions. Calm down, people. |

Wow. A newbie claims a certain Queen song reminds him of another Queen song and instead of asking how the one reminds him of the other he immediately gets hatred spewed his way. I quite understand the hatred on this forum for the retards and trolls that run amok around here but don't unleash it upon a newbie. Trash the bastards that deserve it but please try to act normal to new posters who aren't familiar with the hatred that is Queenzone nowadays. |

Its not hatred, its disbelief. It's like saying Body Language reminds you of Bohemian Rhapsody |

All songs remind everyone of something different to others that was his personal opinion, i agree with Stick on this one there is far too much bitchy snide comments from a small few what is so shocking there grown men. Whatever makes you happy i suppose. |

mooghead wrote: Its not hatred, its disbelief. It's like saying Body Language reminds you of Bohemian RhapsodySo? Maybe there is a link between the 2 that you and I haven't thought of. And even if it is only disbelief, why then the negative response? Why not simply ask the new forum user why he thinks he sees a link between 2 songs? However if the newbie turns out to be another troll then please regard my comments as non-existent. Personally I like to give people the benefit of the doubt (at least a while). |

I have been coming to this site for 15 years and I've been listening to Queen for over 20 years. It might say I'm a "newbie", but that doesn't mean I know nothing about this band. I choose not to post or respond to anything on here because all you people are pathetic morons. I will never post on here again. thank you, and get a life people! |

Princes of the Universe - Kick ass song, one of my favourite Freddie compositions from the 80's. Just saying........ |

It has the same four musicians playing on it! Indeed Queen were four muscians. Today's "+" member is not. |

It's funny because The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke reminds me of Love Me Do by the Beatles. I think it is because they both have drums. CDRom, it's just a bit of ribbing, don't take it to heart! |

I love Princes of the Universe. I still can't believe it wasn't a big hit, especially with that incredible video. Go figure... |

I actually thought that Moog's initial response was quite funny, and didn't see it as hatred. It was up to the OP to point out the similarities, and if he/she has been here for 15 years prior to posting, then they might've known that such a bold statement would open them up to a bit of humourous banter. I didn't see any malice in it at all. On the flipside, I was going to open this post up by saying "lay off guys, let the dude talk" - until I noted he/she then went on to call us ALL pathetic morons instead of taking the opportunity to explain what they meant. If that's how they feel, then with the utmost respect, they're most welcome to walk. |

I've learned to never (out loud) compare any of Queen's 80's material to Queen II for similar reasons. :) |

Queen II is pretty much on its own island, to me anyway. It's never been my favorite but I appreciate the structure of it and how it's really an 'experience' to listen to it. Definitely an album I'd very rarely ever play just a single track from at one time (with the possible exception of SSOR, but that's by design - being the 'single' and all...) |

I guess it was composed in guitar by freddie. It gives me the same vibe than Ogre battle in some ways. But some of the chords are not the ones you would choose in guitar.. so I guess it's kinda mixed. |

I have to apologize to each and everyone of you. I flew off the handle out of frustration because I didn't receive any serious or enthusiastic answers. I realize that this was my fault because I didn't really explain why I compared these two songs. I made this comparison because Princes of the universe reminded me earlier Queen/ Freddie songs. The various parts, complex vocals, and different time signatures. These were the songwriting techniques he was using back in the early 70's. So i was wondering if anyone else felt this way about Princes. Basically, I chose the wrong song to compare it to. Please forgive me. |
john bodega 13.02.2014 05:19 |
You have nothing to be sorry for, ignore these dicks. I think they're too caught up in the superficial concern that there's no harpsichord in Princes of the Universe and therefore can't grasp the point you were making. The songs aren't all that similar, but you can easily tell they were written by the same bloke. Compositionally, Princes has enough different bits in it to be able to say it wasn't written by a complete clod. |

Hence the chords not being natural to a guitar player. I wish he'd written more like this in the 80's. I guess this song proves that had he wanted to he still could. |

cdrom, Joe Elliot has a simmilar opinion . He loves that song in particular, from the Queen's 80's stuff, because remains him the Queen 70's structure, chorus and harmonies. |

I saw your point immediately and like someone said above, you really shouldn't worry about some of the dicks that post here. It was clearly one of Freddie's most complex compositions of the 80s, which really stood out on the poppy AKOM. And what a progress compared to 1985's Mr Bad Guy. |

^ Glad you decided not to leave, cdrom - it would have been easy to have been put off (although I really do think the banter was harmless and not intended to offend you), and not coming back would have fuelled the thought you posted that statement for a reaction. Now you've explained it, I can see where you're coming from in terms of composition. Sound-wise, obviously not, but POTU has always been a favourite of mine. |

I always missed they didn't play in the Magic Tour...but Queen's concert in the 80's were very different to the 70's. There is also a something to think... |

Go figure...ok. i'll humour you....i find it easy to "figure" this one out. the "lead singles" off the album scraped the top 50 & top 40 in the U.S. - POTU didn't make the U.S. top50 at all - not surprising as it was the third single - and it's the norm for subsequent single releases from an album to perform less-well sales wise. POTU also release in Australia where it performed not quite as well as AKOM - it's album predecessor. POTU wasn't released in any other major territories. As for the video....well MTV was huge in the uS at that time - and everyone was releasing videos - so it was just one video among many |
Apocalipsis_Darko 14.02.2014 16:44 |
Also, Brensky, remember Queen were not the favorite band for MTV in the 80's... I think they should published as the first single in US... |
