If with the putative new album they're taking Freddie solo stuff and turning it into Queen stuff what would be more awesome than a Queen version of "In My Defence"?
Yes, I know Freddie didn't write it but I suspect Dave Clark or Time Rice or whoever would be amenable.
I just think Freddie's vocal is awesome and the instruments WOULD be so much better if they were done by Roger and Brian.
I recall that Dave Clark is very protective of his material, and there were some issues preventing release of other Freddie stuff (specifically live takes) of the 'Time' tracks, so I'm not so sure that this will ever happen. I do agree however that this would work fantastically with Brian and Roger (very much in the vein of 'Made In Heaven'.
I've often wondered the same about 'The Great Pretender', I think a Queen version could potentially be epic! Apologies if I've misheard from somewhere, but does Deaky play bass on Freddie's original cover? If so, that's be perfect!!
Not that a Queen Version of IMD would bad in the slightest, in fact I reckon it'd be pretty darn amazing!

Btw, there was nothing wrong with IWBTLY :-)
Wasn't the song already released pretty much how a Queen version would have sounded? Sure, you could have had different musicians playing the song, but the arrangement would still have been the same.
With IWBTLY you can at least claim that replacing the 80's synthesizers with real instruments has made it more of a "Queen" version, but that version has been exaggerated so much that it sounds more like a parody of what Queen would do.
^ Arrangement would be similar, I'd imagine....but sound would be better. You know the Red Special has a very distinct sound - just imagine Brian playing that lovely solo!!
With regards IWBTLY, I actually really liked it. I suppose you can argue that it's a bit overdone - I hadn't really thought about it until I saw your comment - but it sounds good (well, to me anyway lol).
Freddie's IWBTLY sounds like a cheap demo. Queen's IWBTLY sounds more like the song it should have been, though the intro and outro make it sound over-the-top, and not in a good way. The vast majority of the song, however, is leagues above Freddie's version.
