I've been following Jay Shafer for about 8 years now and it is finally time for me to build my own tiny home on wheels. The goal is to build 3 of them thereby starting a small community. Why 3? Because I am raising two spectacular boys and I want them to actually build their own. When its time for college...they take their house with them! These guys are used to tiny living so its something they want to do too.

They are custom built and far more solid than a trailer! Much more attractive too. Many reasons to consider living small...it's good for the planet. Do you realize how much wasted space people have in their homes? I used to live in 4500 sq ft and it was unbelievable how much wasted space we paid to heat and cool. Check out the website Jay has link

That is why in the past, people with large homes divided them into rooms that formed a summer house and rooms that formed a winter house. These could be separate buildings, but they could also be different portions of a single building. That way, you'd only have to heat a few rooms and close the rest off in winter, and you only had to cool the cooler rooms in summer.
Anyone who is willing to put some time and effort into thinking about it can make their own home more energy efficient, sometimes very much more so, without spending a great deal of money.
I understand. I'm still all about building small. I just always preferred a cozy home. Had a home in Colorado and even though it was 2500 sq ft it had small rooms..nice.
It's absolutely great if you can live like that. My point is simply: no matter how large or how small your house is, if you're willing to make the effort, odds are you can make it far more energy efficient than it is right now. Also, in these times of low interest on savings and high energy prices, investing in solar panels is a good deal, too!
