How come many of you have had the cd and the lot already, ive not had mine yet and cant wait i think im going download the album today. But i still cant understand why before release date its available.
Just seen roger on bbc1 on a footy programme and it was good to see Sunny day has had reworking on the video Promo.
Has anyone a link to youtube for fun on earth full tracks yet?
Germany releases all new music on Fridays. So the songs and cds are available there (and maybe in a few other countries) a few days earlier.
So if you don't agree contact your country's government or music industry.....it's only a matter of laws
I also received my copy of Fun on Earth yesterday (via link I'm from Holland and the date of release has always been the 8th of November. I also see that The Lot (I didn't order it yet because of the information on flaws made me hesitate) is still ready to order over here. The price is €124,99 and also for this one the date of release is the 8th of November
Simple fact - in Germany( i am sure in more countrys) online stores often do the shipping before the official release. I have heard about lawsuits because of that.
Heard the album and my first thoughts:
It actually reminded me somewhat of Happiness? And that's not a bad thing to me. I loved Happiness? So it works well for me. I need a few more listens, but I think the album overall is as good as anything he's done. I can't rank them yet but a great great effort from the old man. I too hope we get at least one more album out of him!
Track by track:
One Night Stand - I honestly wasn't looking forward to this one as it was recycled and never much of a song but was pleasantly surprised! The added lyrics and instrumentation helped fill it out quite nice. Still sounds like it could use a bit more something but it was a step up from 1998. To me it fits in well with RT's first 2 albums though, it actually reminds me a bit of slinkier Airheads
FIght Club - Never been a big sax fan. To me this song is a bit filler in that it just kind of meanders on for 3 minutes, is over and you're kind of like oh is it over? Never goes anywhere. Reminds me of some tracks on Happiness? A bit incomplete
Be With You - I wish the guitar part in the beginning lasted throughout a bit more but I love the track. Great harmonies, great vocals, great sentiment. Fun song.
Quality Street - I was so happy when the final section of the song came on and it rocked up a little. Very cool song
I Don't Care - I LOVE this song. This is out of left field a bit for RT with the moving sassy jazziness but I loved it. It got me dancing and nodding my head quite a bit!
Sunny Day - I still prefer Woman as it's got that touch of cynical wit that I love out of RT but this is still a beautiful track.
Be My Gal - Love the Surf's Up intro and then into that goes a perfectly crafted pop song. I just wanted it to go on longer!
I Am The Drummer In A Rock And Roll Band - YES! Typical RT humor and an out and out rocker is long over due on the album. VERY fun with some nice fills.
Small - I was looking forward to this and then was tempered from early reviews and while I agree that the chorus misses the Queen magic, but I like it easily as much as QPR. I actually like Roger's voice on this better. His huskiness makes it work even more. But that's just my opinion. Maybe somebody can make a good remix of them both ;)
Say It's Not True - I love the QPR version but I am excited to have an alternate version that is just as great in it's own way. I love Beck's licks. My only wish is that it was an actual studio version. The rehearsal version is nice in a way also as something different but a full on studio take would have been cool
Unblinking Eye - I don't mind trimming it back a bit, just wish they didn't take the crunchy guitar part out :( But the trimming elsewhere does work at streamlining it a bit.
Up - DAMN good. Definitely reminiscent of Electric Fire with some great rocking movements. Probably my favorite track on the album.
Smile - BEAUTIFUL track. Very Beatlesesque - LOVE the harmonies. Probably my other favorite track.
I don't like to comment on any new albums until I have spent a few days fully taking it in, so having had Fun On Earth since the day of release, I'd just like to say I think it is EXCELLENT.
I love the new tracks, and how the album "mops up" some of Roger's other finest moments, with re-workings of Say It's Not True, Small, etc.
I also love how in addition to "The Lot", there is an extra track on the website. These little things are really nice for fans to be given.
Well done Roger, an album worth waiting for. Been a Queen fan for years, as well as a fan of RT and The Cross - RT has the finest solo collection, and proves he's definately not just another drummer.
I think that with all the problems with "The Lot", too much focus has been taken away from this fine new album. Nice job Rog', another great record - and hopefully you won't keep us waiting quite so long for the next one (hint) ;)
Top marks.
