Does anyone else get annoyed when they see 12" collection been sold separate to box of tricks? And its not just the odd one lots of them crop up! Think of all those BOT out there ruined. Unless they have ever been available separately? But I dont ever remember that been the case.
"annoyed" is a strong word....perhaps some collectors might be mildly irritated...but surely the fun of collecting is the chase?
so if it means having to really hunt around for things that were once more common then it adds to the thrill?
if the "separation" of elements of a package "annoys" you then perhaps you should take up collecting things that can't be divided....like postage stamps :-)
Iv been collecting for years and yes of course its the thrill of the chase and believe me iv had to search far and wide for most of my collection! I got BOT when it was released and have taken great care of it since. So all im saying is how personally it annoys oh sorry " mildly irritates" me when someone separates a nice collectors set and was merly asking if anyone felt the same way. I guess we all value these items differently
Postage stamps can be collected separately or as sets so I guess if a stamp collector was to find a broken set he would be mildly irritated!
The thing that irritates me most is that ALL of the 12" mixes of all singles should have been on disc 2 of the 2011 remasters CDs but weren't. What were the band thinking?
It may not have been separated. There was a large number of these being sold for a fiver. Perhaps they were surplus to requirements for the box of trix?

really true, some extendeds we found on the hollywood remasters, or only on vinyls

I bought bought the 12" Collection and the Live At Rainbow VHS from the official fanclub back in the early 2000's, and they were selling a lot of these separately.
My guess is that the interest in these boxes was overestimated, and all salvageable material was recycled and sold separately once it was clear these boxes couldn't be flogged on TVshop anymore.

It was an overpriced box of not particulary mainstream material in a dodgy box with a spurious T-shirt if I remember correctly. Of course it didn't sell well. The fact that the CD and VHS content weren't related to each other in any way probably didn't help either.
I was never interesed because I don't collect VHS or overpriced boxes. I'd have bought just the CD if I'd been aware it was available seperately.

Well I guess all those 12" singles and instrumental could well be getting saved up for another collectors set. I understand that some of that stuff has never appeared on CD, so maybe it will be coming at some point in the future, especially now that the remastered albums and the complete 7" singles collection are both out there.
Then after that? Maybe they will start to release some of the really rare demos, alternative versions and tracks that missed out along the way that presumably only the core fans and collectors would want to hear. That's assuming they aren't going to be reworked and released on the official Queen album with Freddie scheduled for next year, or any other ones that may or may not be released after that (now who's dreaming?....lol!).
